One of my good friends is a TV reporter in Boston. He's been on scene since about 6 a.m.

If you were there as a sports reporter for, say, The BostonGlobe, how would you cover this?

You know.... I can sit around the house all week and nothing of consequence happens. I go out for 3-4 hours and all hell breaks loose... Aurora, Newtown, Boston.

Well, world, you've been warned, I ain't cancelling my trip this week, so you suckers have it while I'm away from the TV.

"Two hours before bombs at the finish line killed at least two people, ____ of (fill in the African country) won the Boston Marathon."

    Something like that?

Looking at the video of the explosion ... are those the Hoyts (http://www.teamhoyt.com/) to the left side of the road, even with the blast?

A report from Mobile, AL's Local TV 15 is reporting that Univ. of Mobile's cross country coach Ali Stevenson saw bomb-snifing dogs and heard about a possible "drill" going on. Of course this is making the crackpots scream about the false flag and whatnot.

Here is the "original report" which, of course was "changed".

My problem with this: I can't figure out how to make a screen-grab look exactly like this link. So I am guessing it was manipulated by someone...if it had the whole look that the station's website had, I'd be more inclined to believe it.

Here's what the story looks like now: http://www.local15tv.com/mostpopular/story/UM-Coach-Bomb-Sniffing-Dogs-Spotters-on-Roofs/BrirjAzFPUKKN8z6eSDJEA.cspx

I'm all for getting to the bottom of things, but I also can't take one person's account when there where 1,000s around him. I have asked a facebook friend if he saw anything like this as well. So waiting to hear from him. It's intriguing to say the least...but most likely a crackpot like Alex Jones only can make "sense" of all this.

It's a big city hosting one of the biggest events of the year. It's not unusual for police dogs to be on the scene.

Christ, based on what I've seen about Boston on Patriots Day, they might have been sniffing for marijuana not bombs.

Amateur. Clearly, you have to craft the lede like this:
"Ethiopian Lelisa Desisa edged Kenyan Micah Kogo by 5 seconds to win the Boston Marathon Monday.
And then, literally, boom went the dynamite."

Holy fuck that is amazing. I know I shouldn't laugh and that it's too soon, but damn.

You gather every bit of information you can. Everything. Every name, number, quote, email address you can get your hands on. You call the desk and start funneling the information to someone who should be writing the story. Split the byline.

I'd tend to not make light of it for the next day's paper.

I'd almost argue to featurize it, not even focus on the winner.
