There are many contradictory reports on local TV here. But a lot of people hurt. Security is usually quite tight at finish line. I can't imagine they don't sweep for explosives at least the day before the race.

Not that anyone can ever understand the thinking behind such an awful thing happening, but if they were looking for a big body count or huge coverage, they missed the mark by a few hours. I wonder if it was supposed to go off sooner...

    Scary shit.

I realize it's a public sidewalk but do they do any kind of bag check as people enter the viewing area?

I can't imagine how they would.

Yeah, didn't think so. Plus I guess there's no way they could effectively sweep every single building either.

If the goal was to simply injure people the start line would have been a more logical target. If the goal was to make a statement why not set it for the elite runners instead of the stragglers?
There is some serious shit wrong with the world today.

Apparently the Boston Police will set off a "controlled explosion opposite the library", though I'm not sure if that's the UMass-Boston library or the city one in Copley Square.

MSNBC indicating that the "T" Green Line runs under the site of the explosions.

Wasn't Universal Sports airing the race live this morning?

I think it's the one on Copley Square.
