When exactly did "We got the bad guy" stop being considered a success?

Yes, I realize that police bungling can compromise things and give defense attorneys openings to use on stupid juries (see Simpson, O.J.).

But if you are going to demand full reports at your disposal minutes after a long chase executed by officers running only on adrenalin . . . you're going to have to accept the occasional correctable mistake.

"Success" is a relative term and in this case less to do with law enforcement and more to do with heroic private citizens.

That full report was a legal affidavit, not just a report to The Boston Globe. Seems lazy on the part of FBI agent not to pinpoint the carjack location. Perhaps he does not have access to Google Maps.

With the lack of discretion shown with their guns not sure I would want any Boston area cops moonlighting as school security guards.

If history is a guide as to what happens to war protesters, the case will be dismissed against # 2 and he will go on to become a professor at University of Chicago.

I don't think there should have been dancing in the streets after the apprehension of a 19-year-old nerd who shut down a major American city for 24 hours, but the authorities earned congratulation and gratitude.

The cops failure to get him the night before is what shut down the city.

My only disappointment is that Mama Tsarnaeva has not been arrested.

How about when a cop gets executed before they're captured?

These guys weren't on the run, weren't killing cops, and weren't planning a trip to New York before their pictures were released to the public.

They were just hanging around, "hiding in plain site".

The older brother was in a terror database, and had been interviewed by the FBI. Why couldn't they identify him?

And, not for nothing, but who did they show their pictures to before releasing them? Did they ask any of the local Imams if they recognized either of the suspects?

They already knew that the bombs were built according to the instructions in Inspire magazine.

Real life isn't CSI. They can't enhance blurry photos to razor sharpness - which is what you need for facial recognition software to work.

So given blurry photos of a dude in a hat and sunglasses, how would you have tracked down the dead brother?

    University of Illinois at Chicago.

    They are not the same.

Ayers teaches at UIC, not U of C.

Yeah, good point. So we need to make sure our heavily armed teachers know how to draw down on the bad guys. Ten minutes at the gun range nails it, right?

Maybe the monies invested in the Tsarnaev brothers' public assistance should have been applied to better tactical police training.

I guess Boston is not New York either cause that's what happens there. I think at last count I read that NYC task force has stopped 16
possible attacks. They have gotten tight with the local mosques and Imans who have helped .

I would love to see that terrorist data base to see how many are on the list from Boston.

I was goingto correct him, but didn't the wife -- also a bomber -- get a job at U of C?
