From the story on the marathon's cost to the local economy:

I just don't get figures like that.

The money wasn't lost. It just didn't go from the fans to the team. Or it was refunded from the team to the fans, who now can spend it on something else.

I fail to see how paying for a ticket, then having the event canceled and the money refunded is a "loss to the local economy."

Well when our country falls after we're beyond state of emergency, you can gaze with delight into your daydreams of the "good ol' days."

These bastards have found ways to help that along...by using the very "freedoms" we have. But with freedom comes responsibility and we've forgot that. So eventually it will forget us.

  3. Because math is hard.

In all seriousness, how can one quantify the impact to the local economy, as a good chunk of the money would be spent elsewhere in the city? It's column on a ledger.

My problem with you isn't that you think we need to be responsible with freedom. It's that "these guys," to you, is a very large blanket. It's not "radical Muslims," it's "Muslims," because you choose not to make the distinction. Would you be calling for CIA raids on every Protestant church in the country if the Marathon bombers were Episcopalians? Of course not, because A. It's pretty funny to imagine Episcopalians doing anything violent, and B. That would be both a huge waste of manpower and a gross invasion of the lives of ordinary citizens, which the overwhelming majority of American Muslims are.

On a personal level, I think this is bigotry wrapped in a flag, but even if I ignore my personal issue with your stance, the sheer impracticality of what you suggest, and the sheer ILLEGALITY of it, make it a non-starter.

If I'm a protestant in your hypothetical circumstance, it's like this: built on the premise of if you haven't got anything to hide, and a little inconvenience on my part to root out the problems, I say bring it. It's not my rights you're violating; but rather the security of our country. You're also comparing apples to oranges. The "terrorists" are Muslims, pure and simple. And if I was Muslim and a U.S. resident, I would be for doing whatever's needed to root out the cockroaches from around me because they give me a bad name. But all we get is "how dare we offend them."

Insult Christ and see if you have mass Christians issuing fatwas and wanting you dead. Insult Allah and you better look over your shoulder.

  7. The Patriots during the Revolution would have tarred and feathered you like crazy.

Not much surprises me here any more, but seeing a post arguing that the internment of Japanese during WWII was justified sure did.

You're probably never going to understand the fact - not the idea, the FACT - that not all Muslims are radical. In fact, most aren't. But helpfully, they usually have darker skin, wear something weird, and say things in a language you don't understand, so it's very easy to look at all Muslims as one species, separate from the superior race of Christians. I honestly, truly wish I could have a worldview as cut-and-dry, black-and-white and deluded as yours. It really does make it easier to digest the awful things that happen in this world.

That's funny, considering that the Patriots were the liberals. Tories were conservative.
