I've been wondering why nobody reported or noticed the unattended bags.

Maybe the perps stayed with them until the final minute or so. But a bag big enough to hold a pressure cooker, sitting all alone in a public place? Sometimes I see a fast-food bag halfway stuck into a public trash can, and I think: "Shit, even that could be a bomb." At some point, it might be.

People will report a lot more bags and packages now. It's already begun.

At least in Virginia, the Fox stations are still linked to other local stations -- NBC affiliates in Norfolk and Richmond, for example. D.C.'s station I knew had its own staff, but it was also a regional superstation before picking up the affiliation, so they had a head start.

Eh, people watching the race probably weren't looking at the ground. It's not like an airport where they make announcements about unattended bags.

It's going to be some fun getting into the Super Bowl this season.

Yeah but wouldn't there have been people paid to watch. Seems like security was pretty lax.

It's a race...people that are running have friends, etc. carry bags for them with their extra clothes/water. No one is going to be suspicious about a large bag at the finish line of a race.

Another point that has been brought up by a friend off board: the over excitement to localize this story (like we have) with stories of how "security is beefing up for the Shitstown Marathon next month is underway" is so bullshit.
The terror suspect(s) didn't attack the Boston Marathon to kill runners, they did it in a place where lots...LOTS...of people would be.
Looking for bombs at a race that has a few hundred or thousand runners and their families watching isn't going to get a copy-cat bomber. It was the magnitude of the event...not the event itself.

Interesting story on the security that was employed at the race.

"The New York City Marathon concludes inside Central Park, and race organizers convert the finish area into a secure zone. Nonrunners must have tickets or credentials to enter the areas immediately surrounding the finish line, and all bags are checked."

Guess CNN ought to get better ratings and buy some choppers.

And where did you get the idea that a talk show host is a bastion of objectivity?
