Elude capture? He hid in a boat a block and a half away from them and didn't move, probably because he knew he would have been caught.
This wasn't some genius who outsmarted law enforcement officers. This is a guy who found a place to hide and stood there until he got discovered.

But again, how did the police lose track of the SUV and at what point. No doubt most of those police cruisers had cameras rolling. Is there a video of a police car chasing SUV down the block. It's a simple, logical and reasonable question to ask.

Plus, both were killed or captured within 101 hours of the marathon bombing.

Yes, several things made the capture happen very fast over the last 24 hours, namely their fleeing after the release of the pictures and videos, but overall there is far more room for praise than criticism.

And crap happens in the fog of war, which this practically was with all the explosives involved.

From what I heard (and take all of it with a grain of salt), the guy was lopping explosions at police and they were throwing gas grenades back at him so take those two things and couple it with the fact that the dead guy had a bomb on his chest and it's not unreasonable to think the police had to take a couple of moments to make sure it was safe to proceed before giving into to a high speed and potentially deadly chase to find suspect two.
It's a reasonable question to ask, sure, but I think it's WAYYYYY too early to second guess the efforts of law enforcement agents here.

They won't kill this dude. We'll be paying for his cable TV for years.

False. He'll probably get the death penalty. But first, we need to treat him like a citizen.

Speaking of that, can they give him the death penalty since this happened in Massachusetts?

Dear ND: He's been arrested on federal and state charges. The U.S. Attorney will determine the initial venue, which will be federal.

People on the run have the early advantage. And the cloak of darkness helped.

I'm guessing the cops weren't stupid. And they were laying their lives on the line in a vicious street battle that continued to escalate quickly. So, yeah, the cops on the street are the last people I'm gonna dump a bunch of criticism on, and especially just one day later.

I might even want to hear their versions of the story first.

Exactly. Things rarely go perfectly, ever, when you're living in real life. Hindsight is wonderful. But, given this scenario, things went about as well, and about as fortunately, as anyone could have expected. It could have been so much worse, and Watertown was lucky it wasn't.

That he was caught at all, given the chaos, the crowds and the non-descriptness of the guys and the scene preceding the bombings, and given the horrible realities of it following them, was something of a miracle in itself.

Not all fugitives are idiots, and most cops are pretty smart.
