I think FoaF is saying it wasn't live. It was shown via tape delay.

Despite its growing fan base, I'm not convinced those folks would seek their MMA fix in a newspaper. Many MMA "fans" are the definition of casual. They might go to the bar to watch the fights, they might know the fighters from the shows they watch, and then it's out of their brain until the following week.

There are certain popular or semi-popular activities that for whatever reason, don't translate to more newspaper readers and I think MMA is one of them.

The fact that it's an organizational clusterfuck at both the grass roots (in my area, multiple MMA events have been scheduled, promoted, then cancelled, once on the day of the event, because of this fly-by-night bullshit) and national levels (UFC, WEC, etc.) doesn't help.

That all comes before the arguments about it being a bloodsport.

    It was live.

It was a daytime fight that aired in the mid-afternoon.

I was watching the most of the fight while I was getting ready in my room (I was 12 or so), and saw that last bit on a black and white tv in the kitchen while I was putting on my shoes.

My mom, sis and I were going someplace, and I remember being happy I saw the end of the fight.

Then I found out the next day he died fighting Boom Boom.

Not that it is burned in my memory or anything.

I will say that you had no idea of his health until well after the fight ended.

It was a TKO by the way. He was climbing the ropes to get up for more pounding when the ref stepped in to stop it.

    Fixed, maybe.
