I had Martin by a point over Lopez who looked lousy. Tough fight to score. In the old days they would have called Martin a "cutie".

Really sad news. Loved SS and the way he operated. A big loss for the sport.

One of the best refs of his era.

For a long stretch, he worked every big fight I saw in Atlantic City.

    Always congenial.

That said, like boxing itself, he suffered some ethical lapses.

    Rest.

Yeah, he was the top guy on the east coast for many years. Never seemed to insert himself into fights as I see way too many refs do these days.

Couldn't have paid me to see that, but strangely, I do wish that had been a pulverizing, one-punch KO.

Some boxing people said Jake Paul filled a void with the best fighters not wanting to face each other.
I really don’t understand it. How does taking what should be a $100 a round fight on a club show and putting it on pay-per-view fill that void?

The best thing to come from Jake Paul is a great female fighter like Amanda Serrano getting some halfway decent paydays.

Also on that card Badou Jack became a three-division world champion and has had a hell of a solid pro boxing career. Always was a fan.
