But if you are teaching it, it’s the probability of one, in fraction form, multiplied by the probability of another, in fraction form.

Saying exponents only confuses the hell out of people because you only use it for like probability, which is less common than the probability factors changing from attempt to attempt.

    If the people you're teaching don't know that A * A = A^2 and B * B * B *B = B^4, they're not ready for probability yet.

They should be able to do probability with two different factors.

bag of 10 marbles has a 2 red marbles. A marble pulled and removed and another is pulled.

Chance of two red marbles pulled is?

That’s what they get in 5th/6th grade.

but we aren't teaching it, we are calculating it, and the specific issue involved a constant probability.

You don't do the "what are the odds of flipping a coin and having it land on heads 10 times in a row" problem?

My daughter lost marks on a grade 11 math test because she didn’t know the basics of blackjack. Talk about failing as a parent.

They didn't tell me there would be math.

When we got to the part of pre-calc where we talked gambling odds, for the first time math felt vital.

Geometry, calculus, trig…I’ve never used any of it. That unit? Useful.
