The RMN was about 1,000 times better than any of those sections.

A fair point, Simon. I guess I was looking at it more as an announcement inside a building, as opposed to public trauma. But I can definitely see your point.

Yeah, it's news.... It didn't make it any easier to watch.

    Damn.
    Just damn.
Like someone else said, all I can say is, "I am sorry."

was at lunch and heard from a friend about this ... awful. haven't gone through the thread just yet, but the second photo on the rail of the story on the linked story ... honest to God puts me on the verge of tears.

edit: cross "on the verge of."

I got a lump in my throat watching the video and looking at the photos. A lot of us here have been fired, bought out or let go, but watching one of the better papers in the country close that abruptly was nothing short of devastating.

There's something awful and darkly funny about having a Tweet feed, a web video and a slideshow about the newspaper closing.

Somewhere out there, there's a j-school professor lying to a kid, saying knowing how to do web videos will save his career.

Don't forget Philly and Fort Wayne.
I am very saddened by this news.
What scares me is how quickly this decision has been made by the powers that be.
Chuck, best of luck to you and the others.
Suddenly, this profession really has me thinking about becoming a sanitation engineer. Seriously.

    It kills me, too, IJAG.

At the same time, it's the last story they'll ever cover there, and they're covering the hell out of it.

    It's what we do.

I am so sorry. Prayers to those affected, directly and indirectly.

Good to see that the scorn from Mizzou96 was not only unwarranted but wrong. Denver Post has hired a number of the Rocky's big names: http://poynter.org/forum/view_post.asp?id=13833
