MH.. that's a really cool way to handle the final edition... whoever came up with that type of idea, that was really good.

Nope, I didn't make the cover. I'm inside.
If you go to the Web site, and go through the slide show, I'm photo No. 6.
And at least three of me went out on the AP wire this afternoon.

And the photo on Romenesko with the main Rocky story is me.

    Wow.

In somewhat related news...is anyone else having a crisis of conscience (mild hyperbole) over wanting a copy of the final RMN? On one hand, it's newspaper history. On the other, I feel that wanting a copy is somewhat exploitative...a little ghoulish, even.

Anyone else? Or am I just being weird?

To pour their heartbreak and uncertainty into quality pages like that, which should make any human being feel as if they have been punched in the gut . . . what great work by an obviously very professional staff.

I fear that this thread will be repeated in the future, but with a different newspaper as the subject.

Not ghoulish at all. It's a great tribute to the love we all share for this messed up business.

Just went through the entire slideshow.

    Man, it's dusty in here.

  10. The ultimate statement about the people at the Rocky Mountain News, particularly Mile High and the folks who work with him in the office, is that we have known since the first week of December that the end was coming, much like a coach knows he's going to get fired when the season ends. But Mile High and the folks in the office kept pushing the lazy bastards (myself included) in the field to put out a quality product. The guys in the office were so on top of their game, so prideful in the work they did, that when the prima donas in the field (myself included) wanted to have a pity party we didn't have time.
I was asked by a media person today the highlight of my 17 years at the Rocky Mountain News. ``Easy, the last three months, to know I was working with people so professional that they were driven to put out a quality product ever day, knowing that the last day was hanging over their heads.'' If any of you had the time to read Jeff Legwold's coverage of the Broncos coaching change, right at the height of indecision, it spoke volumes about the true pro that Legwold is. Great place to work, not because of any corporate entity, but because of Mile High and Tim J and Moose and Richard and Steve and Bob and Mike and Barry and I better quit before I forget someone's name. Those guys in the office made the guys in the field look good. Thanks guys.

Go backward on the slide show. No. 44. That's the first Rocky.
