Some coverage from NBC Nightly News. First I had heard about protestors protesting the decision to close.

Since the beer is in the fridge upstairs, but the bottles of hard stuff are in the basement, my first shot of straight vodka in 13 years.

To the RMN and the pros pros that were there until the end. May the rest of us that ever have to face the same situation go out the way did.

Not attached to the RMN in any way, but this day was just ... surreal. I've watched everything unfold on here and I guess it hasn't sunk in.

    Un-fucking-real.

  5. Just read all 16 pages, and I've gone through 17 different emotions.

I don't know what else to say.

WFW, friend, WFW. If someone could get on here and tell us where those folks are letting loose, or even where they might be letting loose, I'm sure gingerbread has the sentiments of many pegged just right.

Maybe something bigger is on tap tomorrow night, after the dust has settled a bit. MH or others, let us know if that's the case.

Agreed. Something tells me we can buy a bar in Denver out of beer and spirits via phone tree rounds. :) Line up the taxis now, folks, you won't be driving yourselves home.

Damn straight, ducky. Shit, I wish I'd thought of this earlier. MH and I had been going back and forth on PMs earlier in the evening. Dammit. Hopefully, we'll get the chance to make amends.

No drinks necessary. All greatly appreciated. I mentioned SJ through our many toasts.

I'm not totally out of it ... yet. Though I just got home after more than one Fat Tire (and a shot or two). Scripps may not love me anymore, but my Beagle ran up to me when I walked in the door, so I've still got that going for me. (Namely because he needed out.)

I'm spent. Incredible day. I have no idea what I'll feel tomorrow when I wake up. Probably why I won't be able to just go and sleep right now.

You know, I know they're generally frowned upon, but I'm pretty sure you could start an "Ask Drunk MileHigh" thread and no one would say boo. ;)

Seriously, though, you have been nothing but a picture of class and grace in the most difficult circumstances imaginable, and we know that your coworkers have shown exactly the same.

Well then, take a ride through this thread, if you haven't gotten all the way through yet. Lots of great stuff, despite the stunningly depressing news that launched it.

Having spent a few days in a newsroom after it ceased publication, I know what the Rockers are going through. One day you are amid the bustle of a newsroom, chasing down calls, running around on various duties, exchanging greetings with people who have been a part of your life and the next day, there is nothing. No noise, no clatter, no scanner chirping in the corner. You think about the thousands of people who have been part of a daily enterprise for over a century, starting from scratch every day, to put out an enduring product you can take pride in at the end of your shift. There are ghosts. Oh hell yeah there are ghosts. A great deal of sadness is mixed with a great sense of gratitude that you got to be a part of it, and despair for those who won't ever get to feel the rush of deadline on a breaking news story or the joy of beating a rival paper.
