I watched the video. And I was struck by this - the Rocky Mountain News staff did everything they were asked to do. They blogged, they created video, they twittered and put up slideshow after slideshow. We've all been told that embracing innovation will save our jobs. No, it really fucking won't.

I believe you, but what I was told by a friend at the RMN was that all columnists were exempt. Maybe Krieger was an exception.

The only people whose commitment matters are the ones at corporate headquarters. If they're not committed to weather this, nothing you can do will make a difference.

Every time I see a picture of Boehne in that newsroom yesterday, it really annoys me that he couldn't put on a freakin tie.

He was going for the everyday guy look. It didn't work.

No kidding. Show some respect for the dead. Especially when you're the guy who did the killing.

Sad sad sad. Like someone in the family has passed. And that's what happened. Our newspaper family.

    Best wishes RMN staff.

It was especially touching that he praised the staff while blathering on about the business model. Here's an idea: Modify the business model, corporate, and try to show those that are producing quality work that you care about the work they do.

I'm watching the video now. And it is very hard to see because of the dust in here.

Broncos writer Jeff Legwold and his wife were very, very powerful here. ...

I did some freelance work for the RMN for a few years when their MLS/AFL teams came to town. A few days after my stories ran, Kevin Huhn, the deputy sports editor, would send me a paper clip with a typewritten thank you note. And the checks were always on time.

I'm convinced the dirty secret for these companies is that none of it matters. If good journalism was simply transferring from good print reporting to good online reporting, that'd be one thing. If we needed further proof that's not where we're headed, this is it.

My dad was born and raised in Colorado and, even living in a state a thousand miles away from it, the Rocky Mountain News was always the newspaper he'd talk about when talking about good newspapers. It was always one of my secret career dreams to work there one day. I think that's true of a lot of young reporters.
