    Some tragic news.

James Meadow, one of those sent packing last week, was involved in a nasty bike accident Friday at Chatfield Reservoir, south of Denver. He was airlifted out and remains unconscious.

Great guy. Great writer and reporter.

You can read about it here.

And read some of his most recent stories here.

Last year, he did a big series on Civic Center Park and all its problems. He was out there so much, he became known as the Mayor of Civic Center Park.

Everyone from that newsroom is rallying around him and hoping for the best, but any thoughts and prayers that can be sent his way would be appreciated.

    Done.

I don't know James, but I said a prayer, and felt goosebumps, so, I'm guessing it was received. I'm hoping for the best for him.

    Thank you for the prayer.

I'm sad to report James passed away this evening. His condition deteriorated this afternoon.

Makes the previous 24 pages of this thread all but meaningless.

    RIP.

    Wow.

Just read a few of his stories after someone on Facebook said he died.

    RIP.

I am so sorry for your loss, and this industry's, too. And, I understand the sentiment, Mile.

But I hope you won't feel this way for long.

If this thread was important to you, to others at the RMN, and many fellow journalists throughout the industry -- and the 600-plus responses to your original post says that it was -- then the thread was, and is, important.

James' passing puts things in perspective, and proves that things could be worse -- but only when you get to that point.

For adults in mid-life, in mid-career and, oftentimes, in love with what they're doing -- and, again, this includes you, many others at the RMN and throughout the industry -- the shutdown of the Rocky is far from meaningless.

And I'm willing to bet that James would agree. Aren't you?

RIP, James. (I'm thinking that, perhaps, you should have your own thread).

    Jesus Christ.

This is officially the most depressing thread in the history of the Internet.

    Oh no.

MileHigh, so sorry to read about your -- and Denver's -- loss. Thoughts to James' family and friends, including everyone from the Rocky.

And yes, I think this man deserves his own thread.

A friend at The Post told me they will have a week of unpaid furlough.
