Yeah, Fly has it right. Assuming it's sealed well, that Chimay should handle a bit of aging like that, provided it was in a fairly dark closet that had a pretty steady temperature. Even better if it was in a basement that was always in the 60s, but it should be OK in most states on a closet floor. Some argue over whether to store beer standing up or on its side. I prefer storing it standing up, but I'm not sure that argument is entirely settled yet.

Don't know if any of you watched the premiere of "Brew Masters" last week on Discovery, but it's a pretty cool show if you're into craft beer. Really gets into the behind-the-scenes stuff at Dogfish Head. The first episode was about how the idea and execution of their new Bitches Brew came to be, on the anniversary of Miles Davis's classic "Bitches Brew" album.

The beer is actually really good. It's an imperial stout, but it's got some extra complexity from some of the special ingredients they added in there. The beer had an initial batch that came out to correspond with the album's anniversary, but they just released a second batch. If you happen to see it at your local beer store, pick at least one up. It actually should age beautifully, though, so more than one would be good too. Around here, at least, it's selling out extremely quickly, so grab what you can while you can. No clue if they'll release more anytime soon.

Yeah, caught the show. I'll have to track some down. The negative thing about this show is that it's going to be a big advertisement for Dogfish Head (which isn't the worst beer in the world, mind you). I hope they re-think this and travel the world to hit up brewers for one ep each next time.

I picked up four 4-packs of the Backwoods Bastard. At least two will be cellared. And if I could find a way to get my hands on a Kentucky Breakfast Stout, I'd be all over it. Just doesn't seem to be in the cards.

Had a Goose Island Bourbon County Stout on Thanksgiving Eve thanks to a friend's brother. It was aged one year, and it was tremendous.

I went to Goose Island yesterday. The bartender told me they sold out of their entire stock of Rare Bourbon County Brand Stout in 8 hours on Friday. They sold it at $10.00 for a 5oz pour.
