Favorite movie scene

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by KJIM, Sep 4, 2010.

  1. • "The Rookie," when Jimmy gets the news Brooks is called up, then his own. Then the phone call home...

    • "Breaking Away," early on, when Mike and the guys are near the football field and he's realizing he's never going to be the athlete he was in high school, or leave town. "Every year some new hotshot comes in. Every year it's not gonna be me."

    • "Almost Famous," the concert in San Diego, the bass drum introduces "Fever Dog," and Russell gives William a little grin before he strikes pick to strings. The essence of rock 'n roll.

    • "Good Will Hunting," the end, Chuckie knocks on Will's door several times, and realizes Will's split. Smiling, he walks back to the car, says "He ain't there," and one of the others takes Will's spot riding shotgun. Also, Prof. Maguire gets the note. "Son of a bitch, he took my line."

    • "Grosse Pointe Blank," Martin's proposal to the girl while being a killing machine. Also, throughout the movie, the reactions to his occupation ("You get dental with that?" "Do you need to do post-grad?" "Ah, growth industry, good for you.").

    • "Bull Durham," Crash sitting on the porch, Annie nervously rocking back and forth next to him. "Annie. Annie, I have all the time in the world to hear your theories, and I want to hear every one of them. Now I'm tired and I — I just wanna be." Actually, I could put any scene in this movie here. Love this flick.

    • "Into the Wild," Wayne trying to talk some sense into Alex about taking things too seriously. Alex brushing off Ronald's thoughts about adopting Alex as his grandson. Alex zipping up the sleeping bag for the last time.

    • "Life is Beautiful," Roberto's son emerges from hiding to see the tank rolling in, just as his father had promised. Also, the non-translation of the German guard's orders.

    • "Beerfest," the crew shows up at the house party. "We're here to play some drinkin' games."

    • "PCU," the party at The Pit with P-funk.

For me, the part that gets to me is the looks on the faces of all of the family members waiting to hear what's going on.

Don't you mean the FATHER of all surprises? Sorry...couldn't resist.

    Documentary division:

The Stones listening to the final mix of "Wild Horses" for the first time and their performance of "Under My Thumb" while all hell breaks loose at Altamont in "Gimme Shelter"

The pet cemetary owner's grandson playing "Honky Tonk Women" to an audience of dog tombstones in "Gates of Heaven"

Bob Dylan one upping Donovan at a party in "Don't Look Back"

Steve Wiebe and Billy Mitchell's first meeting in "The King of Kong"

The aftermath of the first fight in "Dig!" ("What's that?" "Blood." "Where did it come from?" "People's faces!")

Pretty much any scene involving Mike Shank in "American Movie"

"Annie Hall" - when Annie calls Alvy in the middle of the night to come over for an "emergency" and it turns out there's a spider in her bathtub. There's a few good lines in that very funny scene - "What am I, your son?" "Black soap? Are you in a minstrel show?" I've seen that movie probably a hundred times and that scene never fails to make me laugh.

"Lost in Translation" - the final scene between Charlotte and Bob Harris. I used to want to know what he whispered to her, but I don't anymore.

Excellent call on that deli scene in "Bananas," too.

"It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World."
Buddy Hackett and Mickey Rooney are flying in a single engine plane and have no idea how to land it.
Paul Ford (Mayor Shinn in Music Man) is a retired Air Force colonel trying to help them land without luck. Jesse White (Maytag repairman) is an air traffic controller tired of listening to Ford.
Finally, he deadpans "Why don't we just shoot them down?"
Never fails to crack me up...

I have a favorite scene in Lost in Translation, but I think I'll keep to my own council as to what it is.

Does it involve a pink undergarment? Or a Japanese prostitute with a stocking fetish?

"There's a spider in there the size of a Buick."

I also love the lobster scene. "You talk to it - you speak shellfish."

The juxtaposition of that guy and his brother explaining his studied approach to business management just kill me.

I didn't even know about the second one. I may actually need to see the whole movie to figure out if there's a tie.

More "Annie Hall" - the classroom scene: "Ivan Ackerman - always the wrong answer." "Seven and three is nine." "I used to be a heroin addict. Now I'm a methadone addict." "I'm into leather."

Suntory sends an older prostitute to Bob's room. She orders him to "lip her stocking" after asking if he likes her stockings.
