In the late '80s there was a show called "A Year In the Life" that was cancelled after one season. Since I missed Freaks and Geeks it was my first introduction to Sarah Jessica Parker.

What I remember of the show reminds me a lot of what the show Parenthood is now, although the one main difference is that in "A Year In the Life," we basically joined in just after the wife of the patriarch (played by Richard Kiley, I believe) had died. Jayne Atkinson and Adam Arkin were also in the cast.

I just looked it up and I guess it started as a three-hour miniseries that they re-upped as a series and then picked up for a season but cancelled after that season.

Stone and Parker obviously thought so, as well.

Three seasons. Just not quite enough time to make Corin Nemec a household name.

My god, Melanie Chartoff is 62 years old. I'm going to go to bed and pull the covers over my head now.

There was a FOX show called "Yearbook" in 1991, (thank you Wikipedia) which was one of the first reality shows that I can remember. It followed a group of high school kids around for their senior year, but lasted just nine episodes. It showed them doing their school activities, and dealing with their friendships and relationships.

The one episode that sticks out in my mind was when a man couldn't see his daughter get crowned homecomeing queen because he was in the hospital for a serious illness. I always wondered what happened to that guy, if he recovered, or if he eventually died.

Also thanks to Wikipedia for jarring my memory, there was a teen soap opera called "Tribes" from 1990 with high school kids dealing with teen sex, pregnancy, action stuff. It lasted about half a season. As a high school junior, needless to say, I rather enjoyed seeing the girls on there.

It kinda was a precursor to 90210.

Benji, Zax and the Alien Prince...early 80s Saturday morning live-action show with everyone's favorite mutt.

Whatever happened to Amanda Petersen? I figured after seeing Meredith Salinger in the current Damages run there might be hope that she'd make a return to acting.

  12. "Firefly" for sure, but I also deeply mourned the cancellation years back of a show called "The Marshall Chronicles." It was a sitcom about a Woody Allen-type high schooler, and it was hilarious. Bonus points for using Randy Newman's "Fallin' in Love" as the theme song.

Fun fact: This show came out around the same time as "Seinfeld," which was originally to be called "The Seinfeld Chronicles" but changed its name because of this other show.
