profootballtalk.com is speculating on the retirement ... Wilde is completely dismissing that rumor.

The Packers would take a pretty significant cap hit this year because his bonus money is prorated, but the team is like $7-$8 million under the cap right now anyway.

Next year, the team would gain something like $10 million on the cap.

If he were to retire, that is.

    Which he ain't.

    FALSE ALARM ON FAVRE?

After further review, it now appears that Brett Favre's Wednesday press conference is simply a standard, weekly media get-together.

The root of the problem was that KSTP-TV in Minneapolis sold the thing as an unusual, out-of-the-norm event with this post from a couple of hours ago:

"Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre will hold a news conference at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Lambeau Field media auditorium.

"There's no indication at this point what the legendary Packer quarterback is going to announce. The Packers lost their first preseason game of the year by two touchdowns to the San Diego Chargers."

As it turns out, he's not expected to "announce" anything.

Sheesh. You'd think that a TV station in a rival's market not far from Wisconsin would know this.

Nope, the MSP media fancies itself as being the information source in the Upper Midwest -- Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota and the Dakotas....

This is also the same station that went digging through a couple Vikings players' garbage last year, so suffice it to say they've been known to make some rash decisions.

I love how these guys jump on the bandwagon momentarily, learn the truth, then backtrack while chiding someone else for propagating such crap.

    Typical.

    :p

As far as I'm concerned, the Vikes should dump his sorry ass. He's had enough second chances.

ESPNWires--Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre held a press conference this morning to announce that HE'S GETTING A FUCKING HAIRCUT.

Among a smattering of giggles, no one really understood what that meant, but we will keep you informed as this story develops, or as others develop it for us.
