I remember pretty much everyone saying West Virginia didnt have a prayer against Georgia in the 2005 Sugar Bowl. How'd that work out for everyone?

I hate to say it, but Dan Patrick had a hell of a point last week. While I enjoy the "every week is a playoff" angle - the college football season peters out around this time of year with only three or four teams really in the running. How much more interesting would the year be if you had all of the conference champions, and those in contention for a conference title, still in the hunt? I think some teams pack it in after the second loss.
Hell, the BCS has already written off the entire Big 10, ACC, Big East and Big 12 - that's a big chunk of the population that has no rooting interest in how things shake out.

The old system was better, not as a good as a playoff, but better. I mean, as Dans Patrick and Oregon point out, whole conferences have fanbases who're being taught to regard the Orange Bowl as a consolation game. In the long run that can't be good for business.

Because I'm not making a point about teams from non-BCS conferences, necessarily. They just happen to be in non-BCS conferences. I'm making a point about teams that are not, from what I have observed from watching football this year, nearly as good as the teams they might go up against.

I think all of the head coaches should draw straws. Then they should attack each other with them. The last one standing is the national champion.

    Or like Utah-Alabama?

If go undefeated in the PAC 10 or SEC that trumps undefeated in the WAC, MAC or chili wac.

But undefeated Boise or TCU should Trump a one-loss team from any conference.

Yes, occasionally there are upsets in bowl games.

But there are also blowouts and mismatches. They are not always necessarily BCS teams against non-BCS teams. Sometimes it's Cincinnati. Sometimes it's Notre Dame. Sometimes it's Illinois in the Rose Bowl against USC. Some of you are taking the non-BCS vs. BCS conference thing way too personally, which I guess I can understand because the system is so unfair.

The fact remains, though. If TCU or Boise plays Oregon, Auburn, Ohio State, LSU, or Stanford, it is going to be a blowout. Remember, two weeks ago, everyone had Utah as one of these football bracket busters who should be in the national title conversation. Well, since then Utah has been outscored 75-10 by TCU and a horrible Notre Dame team with a first-time starter at QB.

    I hope I'm wrong, though.

I hope we get a chance to see. Doesn't really matter. If Boise State or TCU win, you'll just say it was a fluke. Boise State or TCU can't win for losing. It's the perfect fall back position for losing team "oh we didn't get to the BCS title game, so we weren't motivated."

It's the exact same reason Boise State and TCU played last season in the Fiesta Bowl. The BCS school didn't want the opportunity for two beatdowns like Utah put on Alabama. Just a case of CYA by the BCS schools.

    Stop projecting.

Wait. It's a FACT that Boise or TCU would get blown out by Oregon, Auburn, Ohio State, LSU or Stanford? Interesting.

    Not literally.
