How lousy are Vanderbilt fans? Team comes home after getting the first bowl bid since the first Reagan term, they've got a chance to really stick it in Tennessee's craw...and the stadium's about 70% full, and most of that is Vol fans. Laughable.

OK, sustained good, I mean. That was a great game, though.

I love the fact that people just downplay the argument rather than make their own.

I love the fact that dorkdunce fanboys quote two sentences in the middle of a much longer post that made said argument.

    Come ON, now.

Some fucking college football game in midwest America can lay claim to being a great rivalry. But NOT in "all of sport."

    Get over yourself.

There's no rivalry in American sports that rises well above every other rivalry.

bucky, 1988 probably was that year when both were balls above the rest at 1-2 (and Tony Rice and Co. whomped the Trojans).

prezclinton, Piotr made his point a few posts above.

No reason to call names. I just think it's funny that no one has said WHY another rivalry is better.

It's way too early in the morning for this trivial crap.

All rivalries mean something to somebody. No "great list" can be made with a clear-cut No.1
Next week at Oxford, State/Ole Miss will mean a lot, to a lot of people.
Not too many here on the board, but you get my drift.
And it'll be televised. Just like the Apple Cups and the Red River Rivalries of the world.

    Not even Georgia-Florida?

prezclinton doesn't care about other games, so they don't mean as much.

They all pale before really huge stadiums, the first helmet logos and having some band member walk over to near another band member while people say "They just spelled out our state! Woooo!"

buckweaver/prezclinton: Just stop it. It's a fucking college football game in the American midwest. Half of our own country doesn't even care. The fanboyism on display here is embarrassing.

You want me to say, "This one is greater because people riot!" You want me to say, "This one decides more than just some college football conference in the American midwest!"

You want me to spell out for you why your beloved little college football game, considered in the grand world of "all of sport" cannot claim dominance over EVERY SINGLE RIVALRY in the whole, entire universe? Can't you figure it out?

    "'Allo, Nigel!

    "'Mornin', Terry!"

"I say! Did you see that Ohio State-Michigan game last week-end?'

"That I did! 'twas quite smashing!"

"Yes! It surpassed every time our national team has played Argentina in the World Cup!"

"That is so! I had an Italian fellow tell me it's better than the Milan derby!"

"OK, old chap! Must go! The Auburn-Alabama game is on!"

"Blimey! I must see that! Will be a good bloody game!"

    Etc.

It's a great, historic rivalry game. I watch it when Indiana-Purdue isn't on another channel providing great comedy. But "all of sport" is a big place. Not sure why you guys fail to concede that.
