Doesn't beat the 12-year pact Pop Warner has at Carlisle...

Another BCS question posed by a buddy's comment tonight:
So say Oregon State holds on, wins the Pac 10 and is committed to the Rose Bowl. Is there anything in the BCS selection rules (I've read the abbreviated version), because of the conference's commitment to that bowl game, that says USC can't play in the national title game if it's No. 2 in the BCS rankings?
    Thanks in advance.

Brad Edwards BCS column is a must-read this week. I'm curious about a couple of things - will the Harris voters and coaches "adjust" their votes if it turns out TTech does win the tiebreaker and play for the Big 12 championship?
If Oklahoma loses, does TTech suddenly jump past Penn State, Utah, and USC, and Texas. As bad as a three-way tie is for the BCS, odds are Oklahoma and Texas will go on. A two-way tie will result in voting for either a team that lost a game by 40 plus points, or ignoring a head-to-head result for a national championship finalist.

If they have too much speed, what does that make Ole Miss?

In other words, "too much speed" doesn't guarantee wins, nor does it make anyone the best team in the country. Wins and losses do. That said, until proven otherwise, give me Alabama.

If by "until proven otherwise," you mean Dec. 6 in Atlanta....OK.

Right. Because until then, the Gators -- with that home loss to Ole Miss -- don't do it for me. And even if the Gators do win, there's Texas, Oklahoma, USC and Penn State all right there with them.
