I loved that story. A friend and I were talking about it yesterday. How messed up is your team when one week you suspend your whole receiving corps for being thugs and the next week you are making accommodations so your starting safety, who coincidentally will probably be a first-day NFL draft pick, can go for his Rhodes Scholar interview?!?

If Texas Tech defeats Oklahoma 50-48 in three overtimes, will Oklahoma drop in the polls? Should it?

If you say yes, why? Shouldn't the No. 2 team beat the No. 5 team?

If the very people who rank Texas Tech at No. 2 and Oklahoma at No. 5 drop Oklahoma for losing such a close game to Texas Tech, aren't they contradicting themselves?

Yes, I know OU would have two losses, more than most teams below them in the rankings, but you're penalizing No. 5 for losing a close game to No. 2? Because a 2-point conversion -- that could have led to victory in the fourth overtime -- failed?

If you say, "Well, Johnny, they weren't a very impressive No. 5 on this day, the game was sloppy, etc.," then shouldn't No. 2 take a hit too? It barely beat a team you're saying was off its game.

I rarely understand when a team gets penalized for losing to a higher-ranked team. All losses are not created equal.

Just something that crossed my mind this morning.

Happened repeatedly in the late 80s-early 90s when Florida State was ranked, say No. 4, and would lose to No. 1 Miami by two or three. FSU always dropped in the polls the next week. Didn't make sense then, doesn't make sense now.

Shot stops for a second to consider a conscious ESPN effort to screw Ball State.

Shot sees Lee Corso, wearing a Gator head on "CFT," standing up and screaming, "BALL STATE BEFORE IT BALLS YOU!!!"

Shot needs some Advil. Hacky made his head hurt.

Got to love how the Apple Cup is broadcast nationally on FSN, but the Holy War isn't.

  10. no shit. I have no connection to either team (other than growing up with tons of Mormons in my hometown who all went to BYU), but I would love to see that game. pretty bush league that it's not on somewhere that most of the country can see it.

Hilarous. Just turned on ESPN pregame and found out that it's Lloyd Carr's fault that Michigan sucks this year.

In an interview Rich Rodriguez said he should have done a better job of research so he would have known they only had one starter coming back. Now Herbstreit says give RichRod a break; how can he do something when he has NOTHING -- NOTHING -- to work with on offense.

I expect RichRod to keep making excuses. I expect more from Herbstreit.

ESPN commentators do not badmouth college coaches who have turned in record poor seasons at big programs because there's a mighty fine chance they'll be working alongside said coach in a few seasons.
