Why do those rioters think it's their 'right' to loot?

Ferguson lacks Koreans, and it showed tonight.
Supposedly, Korean shop owners terminated a dozen or so looters during the Los Angeles riots of '92.

The decision to announce the non-indictment at night was administrative malfeasance of the highest order. The law, 1980s Supreme Court law, makes it almost impossible to place criminal charges against a police officer for the use of deadly force, since a "reasonable belief" by an officer his or her life is in danger is an ironclad defense. In other words, shooting an unarmed person out of panic ls not prosecutable. Given that, a nice 10 am regular course of business announcement would have been far, far preferable.

Maybe. Are people who torch a business less likely do so if they can be ID'd in broad daylight? I don't know. Ferguson has become a modern-day Watts; who in the next 20 years is going to pick Ferguson as the place they want to live or work?

Who picked it before? The identities of the businesses attacked is a huge tell. What does the area full of auto body repair shops look like in any town? But letting angry, despairing people sit around all day waiting for what they see as horrible news is just stupid if civic peace is the goal.

Prior to decision their should have been a an anti looting ad campaign with catchy slogan like

    "Give a hoot , don't loot"

Ironic that McCulloch partially blamed 24 hour news cycle and then released decision at optimum time
for the cables to do their special work.

"Give a hoot, don't shoot" also has a nice ring to it.

There was really no good time to make an announcement. If you do it during daylight hours, then you increase the likelihood of more innocent people getting caught up in it. Fortunately, it's a holiday week and school is out.

The best time in my view to announce something like this is 6 a.m. on a Saturday, but by waiting so long it'll be obvious what the outcome is and the rioting would commence spontaneously.

Did anyone see the footage of the liquor store being looted? There was video of a guy coming through the front door carrying 4 bottles of Ciroc and a big smile.

    No Justice No Ciroc

Learned as a boy I should never, ever, ever attempt to touch a policeman's gun. Try to take his gun away from him through the window of his patrol vehicle, only bad things can come of that. "Yes sir/ma'am" and "no sir/ma'am" work best. Simple lessons all parents should impart.

The pseudo-lectual down-with-the-Man white-guilt America-sucks'ism pervading the SMs provides a nice touch of brilliance to this theater of the absurd.

It's really quite funny that this all began with a pack of cheap cigars that a kid didn't want to pay for.
