I don't know that I'd call the Vandals a I-A team, and again, I think your hatred of the Broncos blinds you sometimes.

Well, if the Vandals are so bad that there are jokes made about whether they are I-A or not, what does that say about the WAC?

The WAC's bottom sucks, but so does the bottom of a lot of conferences, the Big (11), the Big 12, etc.

I wasn't impressed by USC against Idaho in relation to what others did -- ie LSU going on the road in conference (regardless of opponent) and dominating. I don't want to do it based on reputation or potential schedule or possibilty of going unbeaten -- i go by the week's games and those before it.

Preseason is a crapshoot in determining a pecking order.

For me Boise moved up because of how they won plus the fact that Texas and Virginia Tech struggled at home against inferior competition and moved down. Michigan dropping out helped them too. Otherwise they would have stayed put. Reputation is nice an dall, but if we did that, Boise wouldn't get a sniff of anything. Maybe Cal is ranked too low -- someone I showed my ballot too pointed that out -- but I think Tennessee is a tad overrated.

I said in another post, once you get to the third week, it becomes a lot clearer -- just look at this week for instance, LSU-Va. Tech, TCU-Texas, Nebraska-Wake Forest, Oklahoma-Miami, Georgia-S. Carolina, Auburn-S. Florida, Boise State-Washington. Seven games that will jumble the top 25 no matter who wins.

I was the only voter to rank Clemson at all? Didn't notice that.

Just for clarification, I had USC at No. 2. West Virginia looked really good against a W. Michigan that won eight games last year. It wasn't a cupcake like others had. They ran for 316 yards against a team that was sixth against the run last year -- that's impressive.

And LSU was more dominating against a conference opponent than USC did, scoring fewer points against a program than Hawaii, Boise, Nevada, Washington State, Oregon State scored against them last season.

That was me. Trying to tell the difference right now between A&M, Texas Tech, Alabama, Miami and figure out how far to drop Tennessee, how much credit to give Georgia Tech and does Michigan stay in were toughies

Which is why I kept Michigan in the top 25.

It's a long season, and in that context, their talent indicates top 25. If they lose to Oregon, they're finished. But if they don't . . . . tasty crow, served here, there and everywhere.
