I have a feeling that BC is the same way, which should make this week's game interesting.

Problem is, there seem to be a lot more paper tigers this year than real ones.

Amen to that. Look at A&M — the coaches view them as the 18th best team in the country and all they have done is beat a I-AA aby 31 and Fresno State by 2 in triple OT, both at home.

It's also the reason why there shouldn't be polls until the last week of September.

Just took a second look, and there's only one team behind GT that I really think is better than they are, and that's Oregon. Caveat: Clemson bitch-slapped the Yellow Jackets last year, and it wouldn't surprise me to see them do it again this year. That series has been pretty wild, though. And I guess if I really wanted to be heard here, I'd have volunteered for the poll ...

See, I actually like BC. All they ever do is win 10 games each season. Someday, they will bust through. Given how wide open the ACC is (again), I can see where maybe this would be their season.

See, I don't believe that would solve all the problems. It wouldn't have helped Rutgers get ranked any earlier last season, given how people didn't believe in it because of the easy schedule. And Boise State still wouldn't have been ranked any higher than it was.

The only thing later rankings would mean is that Michigan never gets ranked as opposed to being dropped the second week. Either way, the Wolverines still wouldn't see the top 25 in October, so what's the big difference?

At least by the end of September, you'd see at least four, maybe five games by everybody. How many teams will be undefeated by that point? Right now I think there are 43 after two weeks, better than 119 before the year begins.

I know every season is different, but some things are always constant you can see right now -- preseason teams that don't lose (ie A&M) stay ranked until they do and people that beat traditional powers (ie Ga. Tech and Oregon) are the first to be rewarded.

Give it a month and it makes it a lot easier, especially to rank the one-loss teams, who get trashed the moment they lose and never regain traction.

And you avoid things like when Oklahoma lost its QB a week after the preseason poll came out, or kids getting kicked off because of grades, drugs, whatever before the season starts.

If you have followed BC over the years, you know they're destined to not be great.

Sure, they beat Texas at home in the 1970s, and they won at Notre Dame in 1993.

But they followed up that particular Notre Dame win by losing, at home, the very next week to a mediocre West Virginia team -- there went a Fiesta Bowl bid and a few mil.

They always lose one or two games each year that they shouldn't, and they really gained a penchant for doing that under Tom O'Brien. Last year, it was N.C. State. This year's could've been N.C. State, but I guess O'B wanted to see his team drop it.

Maybe the Coach Jags era will make a difference, but I don't see BC going into Atlanta and winning. I could be wrong.

Trust me, I've followed them enough to know that. But a year after Wake Forest represented the ACC in the BCS, I don't see any reason it can't be BC this season should they win at GaTech.

Again, someday they will bust through. And maybe this is it.

Aubie 1-2, Michigan 1-2... which will get more votes this week.
