Trying to have their cake and eat it, too.

"West Virginia lost!" Yeah, but they lost to the No. 2 team in the nation.

"But USF ain't that good!" So why are they ranked No. 2?

People need to make up their minds. In fairness, that's easier said than done this year.

I understand topsy-turviness this season, but can someone make the case that Kansas is a top five team? Two poll voters have ranked them No. 4, and I don't see it. Unless you're trying to get into Oz's bed, in which case I won't judge you (to your face).

I look at Kansas this way: they have done what a top team is supposed to do -- absolutely destroy the teams they are supposed to plus they have a road win in conference over a top 25 team.

The average margin of victory in those games you listed was 47.8 points and the closest was 32 points.

It's like South Florida -- if they had a big-time program's name, they wouldn't be questioned. Kansas is the same way. If Oklahoma or Texas had done what Kansas has done, there would be no doubt. The second-half of the schedule will tell the Jayhawks' tale, starting Saturday at Colorado.

Is Boston College or Ohio State that much better than Kansas when you look at their schedules??

Nope, which is why I've ranked KU close to those two. I did it in a different way, though -- I've got Ohio State, Boston College, Arizona State and Kansas lumped together at Nos. 8-11. I'm going to err on the side of caution with those teams until they get a marquee win or two.

    My top five ...

    1. South Florida
    2. Louisiana State
    3. South Carolina
    4. Oklahoma
    5. California

Biggest riser — Kentucky, from 13 to 7
Biggest falls — Illinois, 18 to the outside
Added to the top 25 — Texas Tech at 17, Tennessee at 21, Michigan at 24, Kansas State at 25
Dropped from the top 25 — Illinois, Wisconsin, Florida State, Colorado

    My poll:

1-5: South Florida, Ohio State, LSU, Boston College, South Carolina. Sorry, but not ranking the Bulls No. 1 is nothing but snobbery. Their body of work is the best in the country. Two quality wins that are better than anything the Buckeyes have to offer. LSU/BC was a long decision for me. But this year, the SEC is the toughest conference in college football. When I look at where I ranked South Carolina and Kentucky, I just didn't think LSU deserved to drop below BC, especially since it lost on the road in three overtimes.

6-10: Kentucky, Oklahoma, West Virginia, California, Arizona State. Last week, I strongly disagreed with how the polls treated Kentucky, and it's a joke they're 13th in the coaches' version today. They have one loss -- on the road to a team that played LSU tough in Baton Rouge. People may disagree, but they deserve this ranking. Thought long and hard about Oklahoma, felt the Sooners may be getting stiffed here. It's possible, but I felt the six teams ahead of them deserved their spots. Oregon's spot in the AP/USA Today polls is ridiculous. Didn't Cal beat them in Oregon two weeks ago? So, now the Golden Bears drop below the Ducks? Stupid. Both teams drop, but the Bears stay ahead.

11-15: Oregon, USC, Florida, Hawaii, Missouri. Didn't like the fact I had four PAC-10 teams in a row, but felt all four deserved those spots. The Tigers' loss is to a good Oklahoma team. Don't deserve to fall too far.

16-20: Kansas, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Georgia, Auburn. The Jayhawks are a tough call for me. I don't fault a team for beating everyone on its schedule, that's what it's supposed to do. But I just don't believe in the bluebirds yet. The Hokies don't deserve to rise unless they beat BC in two weeks.

21-25: Cincinnati, Kansas State, Texas, Texas Tech, Michigan. Put the Wolverines ahead of Penn State because of the head-to-head win.

He's adding totals as we speak... but if anyone sees Idaho, he needs to fix his picks for taking Michigan twice
