Being a born-again Christian is a preference and/or choice. So is hiding behind the Bible and using its millennia-old ideas to justify oneself. So is being a loudmouth.

People have certain predispositions with regards to sexuality. Acting on them is a choice, of course. This is why some people manage to abstain from sex and others choose not to. But let's not fool ourselves into thinking that someone wakes up one morning and says "Aw, screw it. I like members of the same gender sexually now. And nothing will change my mind!"

That's right, it's their conservatives that are always crying.

Anyhoo, I really don't care about this topic or this thread, but I get a kick out of someone who has no problem insulting others he disagrees with being the voice of reason and delivering a sermon on equality and respect. Hypocrisy Lives Here, and sometimes I feel the need to point that out.

    Thanks again for the DVD.

    Carry on.

I also exist in an alternate universe, a message board having nothing to do with journalism and where politics is a side issue on a subforum, and while conservatives outnumber liberals there by probably 3-1, they are still sick bastards, borderline psychos, children sent to bed without their ice cream. I take a lot of abuse there now that they know I am a journalist ("Biased! You're biased!") and I have to come back here to rebuild my online self-esteem. I have taken to listening to conservative radio because it always gives me ammunition with which to needle them. Limbaugh is the mother lode, I tell you.

Serious question for those of you who are so opposed to homosexuality and really believe it's just a personal lifestyle choice - how many gay people have you really talked to about it? Did you ever have a moment when you sat down and decided what your sexual preference would be? I certainly didn't - when I became aware of being attracted to anyone, it was to girls. Puberty's tough enough when you're experiencing the same stuff as most kids your age. Why do you believe so many kids are volunteering to deal with parental revulsion, ostracism by their classmates and being threatened with eternal damnation?

I've had a couple of gay friends over the years, and both were never attracted to anything but guys. One of my friends tortured himself trying to change - therapy sessions, one of those groups that "cures" gays, the whole bit. None of it worked, and he still despises himself over it. But that can't make him suddenly find women attractive. Why is it so hard for some of you to believe that?

Stay strong, Frank. And keep taking the high road against those sick bastards, borderline psychos, etc. You're an inspiration to those of us who wish we could be so tolerant and accepting.

And if you can find an instance of me just out-and-out insulting someone I disagree with without trying to address any of their points, I'll send you the second season of Arrested Development, free of charge. There are plenty of dudes who go after the SportsJournalists.com Conservative wing with insults hoping only to score cheap points and make other liberals snicker, and I have never been one of them. Have you ever seen me take an unprovoked dig at you? Or Pope? Or Wingman? Or Guy? Or Herjira Henry? Or Armchair QB? I don't think so. So take my sermon for what it's worth.

I was talking about Fenian. But I really would like Season 2. Alas, I'm too lazy to search through your posts. :)

I have no problem with your approach, and even for those I do, life's too short to argue with people I never met. I made my point. I'm satisfied.

There's been some great debate on this thread and I don't mean to get in the way of that, but I just want to give a shout out to zagoshe for pointing out that this whole thing comes off like a big marketing ploy for ESPN to drum up readers/listeners. Greenberg did four hours of his best professional overreaction to it this morning. Cowherd talked about it some more after that. And I didn't listen to any more radio today to hear more. But I assume there was plenty of it. To play devil's advocate to my own assertion, the Hardaway comments also made the news headlines on the Today show. So I agree there was news value and this wasn't just a Disney operation. But it sure felt that way.

That being said, I was bothered by both Greenberg and Cowherd talking about gay people living a "lifestyle." The gay lifestyle. Cowherd all but said he thinks people are either born that way or they're not. So if you believe that, quit using the word lifestyle. It's like calling Katrina victims refugees.

And as far as my opinion, for whatever the hell that's worth, I'm with Jerry Seinfeld .... "not that there's anything wrong with it."
