    Or southern Indiana.

Oh, here's West Texas: Fence. Fence. Cow. Fence. Fence. Truck stop. Fence. Cow. Fence. Truck stop. Fence. El Paso.

Ok, now that I've gotten through 6 pages of this, my recommendations.
Council Bluffs has some good casinos (right across the river from Omaha), where you can play the slots and the doggies if you wish (at Bluffs Run).
I-80 between Des Moines and Omaha is OK... I've seen much worse, and it's pretty flat and easy to travel.
If you have to get gas, stop at a Casey's or Kum &Go (yes, stop laughing, it's real). Both quality convenience stores, and Casey's has tasty sandwiches.
Des Moines isn't nirvana, but it isn't bad. Try the Court Avenue/river district if you're looking for a beer, a couple good places down there, though I can't recall any names. Principal Park - home of the triple-A Iowa Cubs - is a really nice place to see a ballgame.
Can't recommend anything between Des Moines and Minny. Ames (home of Iowa State University) is boring as hell.
    Drive safe....

Dude, between the time he started this thread and you gave him the Iowa triptik, he's gone and come back, developed his film and GOTTEN A HAIRCUT...

Sorry. Long day of baseball and I didn't look at the dates...... thread just caught my attention.
My head is feeling dense. Maybe I need a FUCKING HAIRCUT.

    After 27 hours of driving...

Stopped in Sterling, Colo. and now have bug bites, presumably from bed bugs. (It's the one with the crown logo just off the freeway, if you're in the area.)

Averaged about 80 the entire way, saw two highway patrol troopers after I passed Beaver, Utah.

The first Kum' N Go was in Rifle, Colo. The second was in nearby Silt (but when I saw the sign, I saw Slit, dammit.)

Worst part: Des Moines and north. At least in Nebraska, I had small goals to look forward to (North Platte. Kearney. Grand Island. Lincoln. Omaha.) Not much past Ames on this road.

Thanks for all the advice folks. Appreciated.

No problem. We're all travelers here.

Couldn't tell you why, exactly, but in the history of SportsJournalists.com, Oz's above post is one of my favorites. T-shirt slogan material, and I mean that as a high compliment.

Must be time to hit the road.

27 hours of driving? What are you, a trucker? ;)

I feel like it, except I didn't have the comfy bed with DirectTV in the back.
