    I always thought the exteriors were shot in Fort Benning. And I'd disagree about the movie not being about Vietnam. It's a pretty clear understanding of the mindset that got us into Vietnam in the first place.

    Surprised how often Kelly's Heroes has been mentioned. It is a movie set in World War II but with characters straight out of the late 1960s. As someone who like their war movies kind of authentic (i.e. see my Big Red One "nomination" earlier), that is a big land mine for me.

    That's its charm. It makes absolutely no effort to be realistic.

    When Trumpets Fade

    An HBO movie that is pretty gritty about the World War II battle of Hurtgen Forest.

    Probably not seen by many but you would remember it if you did.

    You mean that they can't shoot paint canisters out of tanks.

    Nor can they haul away a Fort Knox stash of gold in two trucks and a Tiger tank.

    Doesn't make the movie any less entertaining though. Very enjoyable flick.

    Tough to think of a movie you all haven't thought of except:
    "The Best Year of Our Lives"
    "Mrs. Miniver"
    "Hope and Glory"
    "Empire of the Sun"

    and MacArthur is right there with The Green Berets as drek
