FOI's... ever use them?

  1. Thanks
I'm trying to cover the bases: AG's office and Sec. of State.
If that fails, I'll try a board member ....

If you use GuideStar, do you or your employer purchase any of the plans for more detailed information?

If so, which is best? Basic? Premium?

ESPN.com had an LSU women's basketball story the other day that obviously relied on an FOI filing, but I was puzzled how an FOI request would be used (as it appearently was) to shake loose Pokey Chatman's phone longs.

    Thoughts?

If Pokey used a cell phone paid for by LSU, it would be subject to FOI.
It would juts be a log of when the call was placed, where it went and for how long.
Same goes for text messages sent by school-owned cell phone.
That would also be true for an office phone. Or a school e-mail account. I'm not sure how it would work if a school computer was used to send and receive e-mail on a personal account on yahoo, hotmail or gmail.

  5. This has been the most informative thread I've seen on this site -- at least for me. I have already registered on GuideStar and am soaking in all the other info that's being offered here.
Just wanted to say thanks ... and keep it coming!

In my case, I've developed the reputation that I'm serious about FOIs. Because of that, I'm usually given the information without even sending a letter. Generally the conversations go like this:

ME: I'd like to get the details on such and such.

SCHOOL: I don't have that information in front of me.

ME: Do I need to write a nice letter?

SCHOOL: No, I'll call you back in an hour.
