Dinner on the edge of the ocean. Perfect end to a long day.

My last fill-up before arriving in my new home state, where one must leave pumping gas to the professionals.

Weed, Calif., where this last fill-up took place. The Natural State. I love it.

A snack I bought in northern California just because of the name. Tasty.

Not that I needed snacks. My sister (first girl, from left, in photo below) loaded me down with all kinds of breakfast bars and such before I left her house in Anaheim.

I got my first really good look at the Pacific Ocean on this trip when I reached Ventura but was unable to take pictures. Stopped for the night Saturday in Daly City and had dinner with my uncle and his companion at Nick's on Rockaway Beach in Pacifica. Gorgeous view of the ocean just outside the window.

Sunday morning, I drove across the Bay Bridge, saw hot air balloons near Vacaville, then listened to part of a 1970s "America's Top 40" with Casey Kasem on some radio station. That was kind of fun. I never heard what song was No. 1, but "Shambala" by Three Dog Night was No. 27.

Some photos from the Lake Shasta area of northern California:

    Miles so far: 2,871

I'll finish the drive late Monday morning and early afternoon, stop by the paper to say hello, then get to where I'll be staying before I find a more permanent place to live.

One of the reasons I left the South was to escape the heat and humidity. The temperature could hit 100 today at my new home. Nice. Ah, but it is cool at night. That just doesn't happen back home.

Almost there. Thanks for following along. Oh, and 21, I have more names of songs from the countdown with Casey Kasem if you'd like to sing them to pass the last few remaining hours of the journey.

    I'm on the case.

Debuted on Hot 100 on 5/19/73 ... peaked at No. 3 ... catalogue number is Dunhill 4352 ... second-to-last (before "The Show Must Go On") of 11 top-10 singles by the band.

By the way, did you know 3DN had the first No. 1 ever spun by Casey on AT 40 with "Mama Told Me Not To Come"?

Mama had some damn good advice. ;)

And so did Randy Newman, who wrote the song.

    Love that one too.

And now I think "Shambala" was No. 28. I took notes for 21 and the elusive Luggies. I will look for them after some more shut-eye.

Thanks for the info, Bat. Sorry we couldn't do that lunch.
