You're New Yorker. There's no reason to ever set foot in the Olive Garden or TGI Friday or, God forbid, Golden Corral.

And, it looks like it's been there forever too!

I think the owners when I was going in were third generation, and there were newspaper clips and such from long ago on display.

I'm a bit surprised by the "have you ever been here before" reaction? If the answer is yes, they should say welcome back and thanks. If it is no, it should be "welcome, we hope you enjoy it. You've may have heard our specialty is such and such ***"

Is it really that big of a deal?

I'm not going to get upset if my server is nice.

Back to the original post in this thread: What are you putting salt on at Jimmy John's? Are you opening the sandwich and adding salt? Are you sprinkling it on the chips? I'm confused.

Yeah, just say yes and the guy won't have to explain the secret (butter!) to getting that extra little sizzle on your steak at Ruth's Chris.

One thing about the restaurant scene in suburban Boston. While there are fast food chains, such as McDonald's, Chipotle, etc aplenty, the national sit-down chains discussed here are rare. You find some, but they're mostly adjacent to or inside shopping malls. In the towns proper, local restaurants fill that niche.

I will occasionally use salt to season (but not all the time), and I never add salt to cooked food. It's not needed.

Quick tangent: Had Ruth's Chris for the first time not too long ago. Did not live up to the hype. Good, but not great. Doubt I'll be back.

It also didn't help that the atmosphere was similar to that of a funeral home.
