OK, this is fucked up. It's just reverting to the good ol' boy mindset of "women don't belong in sports media because they don't know anything about sports." That way of thinking is part of how we got to this lack-of-minorities point in the first place.

If this particular woman had a job that required knowledge of the NFL, then sure, her question was cause for concern.

But what if she has an encyclopedic knowledge of college basketball? What if her specialty is Olympic-level track and field? What if she's so busy writing for a soccer publication that she doesn't have time to keep up with NFL players?

Working in sports does not require you to know every thing about every sport, or even to like every sport. Many people on this board have proven that to be true as we discuss the World Cup.

no white male has ever worked hard to get where he is or has had trouble getting a job. none. hell, i was so happy in j-school when they taught us the white guy handshake. went into the nyt building, walked up to the sports editor and gave him the white guy handshake and i got put right on the yankees beat, like every other white guy in this business
