This thread is like a buoyant mini-turd that just keeps circling the perimeter whenever someone flushes the toilet.

Uh oh. PETeacher has some support.

I'm not sure threatened is the correct word here. These editors may be sexists or racists. Or they simply might not give a damn about diversity and hire the person they think is the best fit for their staff's needs at the time. But if anything, they are more likely to have a lack of respect for women or minority candidates rather than feeling threatened by them.

Now other job candidates feeling threatened, that I can see.

PE - grow up. those of us who are less than 112 years old and who hire folks are not threatened by someone who simply is a different color or gender. are you just stupid, or do you think all white males are the devil?

hate to break it to you Tom, but there actually are people out there like that. But, it's on both sides of the board, white, black, asian, whatever. The only difference is, mostly white men run the companies.

grizzv - you're not throwin' down any breaking news to me. i understand what you're saying. what i'm saying is most people my age don't give a shit what your race or gender is when making a hire.

and yeah, i agree with your final point, and, if pe were a hiring editor he'd be a mirror image of the people he hates the most ... he'd only hire people who looked just like him.

Now, see, this is stupid logic. It really is. So any section without a diverse racial background isn't good? What, white people can't write? I understand the need to diversify sports staff, and I wholeheartedly agree with the idea of trying to reflect the faces of a community with said staff. But you're making a hell of an asinine leap of logic with this post here.

I don't think the success of Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith will result in more African Americans becoming sports journalists.

  11. Apparently I'm in the minority, but I like Irvin's on-air personality

  12. Yes, you are in the minority. Given your posts, though, I can't say I'm surprised.
