Damn. I brought up the eight seconds thing just yesterday to illustrate the length of Mooch's WH tenure.

It is. That guide was a revelation to me -- and how I finally learned to spell "loser" correctly, at least in SJ.com terms.

Until then, I vividly remember, I'd actually get annoyed and frustrated, every time I saw a reference to "looser." I would think to myself, in all seriousness, and not realizing, "Really, could all these people, on a message board full of writers and editors, actually not know how to spell the word "loser"? It drove me crazy, until I happened to stumble across that guide a few years ago.

One that always makes me laugh but I haven't heard it in forever: "who beat?"

As a married man I look at it in terms of which women would be easiest to turn down if ever propositioned. The quantity of ease of rejection is inversely proportional to the likelihood of me bragging to friends that an offer was made.

A fair number women in the Poin Files sit high on the ease of rejection scale and remarkably low on the bragging scale.

I've always thought the "would or wouldn't" didn't refer to the act, but instead about bragging about it afterward.

As long as we're bringing up old threads, this was one of the best:

50 Shades of Grey: Not the story of Big Ben's penis

My wife rarely looks at SJ, but she liked that thread having laughed her way through the first "50 Shades of Grey" book. Thankfully we haven't seen the movie.

Thank God this never came to pass:

BLOGS!!!!: Sarcastic term used whenever someone states that alternative online media, particularly blogging, is the future of the industry

One of my faves too. Back when the board still had a fairly active Nascar crowd.

Yeah, I've been around here long enough to remember when that was a legitimate slam.

It's not in the style guide, but we've had a "release the hounds" moment on the journalism board.

The old threads are worth it if not for the tale of board legend Pickle Juice. No kin, I assume, to the alleged 9-year-old who wrote POTUS.

I recognize the origin of the '6' myth but always remember that's how it used to be in figure skating.
