NORTH, S.C. (SJ) -- When the SportsJournalists.com Soft Drink Wars bracket was released, the fourth-round showdown seemed inevitable -- 7-Up vs. Sprite.

Now, it's finally here.

Quenchy Regional top seed 7-Up and second-seeded Sprite will meet this week to see which soda advances to the international semifinals of the Soft Drink Wars.

7-Up was saved by a tiebreaker vote in its third-round match-up with fifth-seeded Orange Crush, while Sprite blasted Diet Mountain Dew to set up the all-clear sugary showdown.

On the other side of the non-brown bracket, top seeds Sunkist and Mountain Dew will meet in a match-up of two sodas that have had relatively little trouble reaching the final eight, a round otherwise known as the "Ocho Drinko."

But that doesn't mean the third round didn't have its surprises -- especially for the high seeds from the Pepsi Conference. Tasty Regional top seed Pepsi lost in surprisingly convincing fashion to fourth-seeded A&W Root Beer, while Fizzy Regional No. 2 seed Diet Pepsi was booted from the bracket by sixth seed Cherry Coke.

Cherry Coke will meet Barq's in the Fizzy Regional Final. The No. 9 seed continued a strong run for the Root Beer Conference by edging Diet Dr Pepper.

Meanwhile, A&W will meet No. 2 seed Dr Pepper, which needed a tiebreaker vote to knock another RBC member, IBC, out of the bracket.

Voting for the fourth round of the SportsJournalists.com Soft Drink Wars will be three days instead of the traditional four used for earlier rounds. It will end at 11 p.m. MDT on Friday, Aug. 29.
