Former sports editor (& SJ.com poster) arrested in connection with bank robbery

Discussion in 'Journalism topics only' started by Perry White, Aug 15, 2007.

  1. Agree. It's also a more intriguing story when you think about someone with a career, whose likely stayed out of trouble their whole lives, only to end up like this. I think it's normal for some of us to have compassion for him because we can relate to a point.

It's not just journalists. I've written a couple stories recently about professionals who went to good schools, volunteered in their communities, had professional jobs but made very poor decisions. One guy I exposed just lost his $70,000+ a year job after he got charged with a bunch of fraud offenses that will basically make him unemployable if found guilty.

On one hand, we all know he should have known better, probably could have sought help before something doing so stupid. On the other hand, we've all made some stupid mistakes and live in fear of making an even greater mistake that could wreck our lives. That's where the compassion comes from.

I'm sorry, but again, a lot of compassion gets thrown out the window when...

    Somebody. Robs. A. Bank.

    Get a grip here, people.

What if he had embezzled the money from a bank?

The guy had a toy gun and was chased down by family hauling toddlers in a minivan. Not exactly Bonnie and Clyde.

Oh, if he had embezzled the money, our liberals would have built him a vault to put it into...

Woman that sees that toy gun doesn't know that.

Yes, he gets credit for knowing going in that he wasn't going to willfully kill someone.

    But just a little.

  7. whoever wrote something like, "We're all just two bad breaks away from robbing a bank," dumbest thing I've ever read on this board (and that's saying a lot, because I read "What song are you listening to right now?")

    no, we're not

most of us wouldn't rob a bank.

no matter how bad things got.

    trust me.

Walk a step in another man's shoes before you draw such conclusions.
