Only 45 minutes away from a Hall of Famer. Me thinks it's time to go watch Brett Favre play.

This could be a worse marriage than Unitas and the Chargers.

NFL Network says the deal is currently a fourth rounder.

It goes up to a third rounder if Favre plays 50% of snaps, to a second if he plays 70% of the snaps and the Jets go to the playoffs, and a first if he plays 80% of the snaps and the Jets win a Super Bowl.

I'm guessing this becomes a third rounder.

"Brett has had a long and storied career in Green Bay, and the Packers owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude for everything he accomplished on the field and for the impact he made in the state. It is with some sadness that we make this announcement, but also with the desire for certainty that will allow us to move the team and organization forward in the most positive way possible.

"We respect Brett's decision that he could no longer remain here as a Packer. But there were certain things we were not willing to do because they were not in the best interest of the team. We were not going to release him nor trade him to a team within the division. When Brett ultimately decided that he still wanted to play football, but not in Green Bay, we told him that we would work to find the best solution for all parties involved. We wish Brett and his family well.

"We appreciate the tremendous passion shown by our fans. We, like them, always will see Brett Favre as a Green Bay Packer and our respect for him never will change. Moving forward, we are dedicated to delivering a successful 2008 season for all Packers fans."

    -- Ari Fleischer

Some Packers fans are going to say the Packers gave Favre away. I don't see it that way. The got a decent draft pick for a guy they were counting on being retired.

Bingo. They got a free draft pick and the team has moved forward like it had planned to all along. As a Packers fan, I'm quite satisfied with this deal.

And as a Favre fan, despite all this drama, I'm very happy I'll get to see him play one more time.

The fact that the Packers hired Ari Fucking Fleischer pisses me off more than anything Favre-related that's happened.

Based on, well, anything he did during the Bush administration, I now believe Favre actually got traded to the Ottawa Rough Riders, the whole Jets thing is a way to blind the media, just like WMDs and the Plame affair. I mean, he duped the New York media once, right?

I don't trust Ari Fleischer any further than I can throw him. I also don't like the fact the Packers front office and PR staff didn't have enough balls to write the release themselves.

Just for hiring Fleischer, I'm rooting against the Packers in one game this year*.

    * A hopefully meaningless Week 17 game when they've already locked up a playoff spot, but dammit, I'm rooting against anyway!

Unless you root against them in the season opener, your words mean nothing, Bubs.
