I'm not trying to be a dick here, and I realize the board is called "Anything Goes," but it's more than a bit tiring to see so many threads turn into a political pissfest for no good reason. I mean, give it a rest, already, please.

Oh, please excuse me. Forgive me for daring to express a contrary opinion. I'll bow out of the thread now so you can continue your pathological Bush bashing.

I happen to love NPR. But I see your point. The only thing really missing is the dentist's chair and the hose to the nitrous.

    Kind of like soccer.

Xenophobia has nothing to do with this. A product has been put on the market and the people have decided they're not buying. No thank you, go away please, don't come knocking again. That's pretty much it.

The point I'm trying to make is about how soccer people like to think that they and their game are intellectually superior to football and football people, and that might not be the case.

not sure, don't follow soccer enough, but just use a blue line and then no one would be able to do that either.

In a 1-0 baseball game, both teams are at least trying to score. In many 1-0 soccer games, teams are not trying score for a
large part of the game. They may be trying to control the ball, but they are not pushing it forward.

What's wrong is that the world keeps pushing us to sign up because they want the US dollars.

    Mr 70,

I don't think that the World Cup final will be played with a used ball. The economic clout of the nations that play (including all of the EEC, Japan, China) eclipses the impregnable market that doesn't. And if you're wondering about the direction of those markets, please track US-Euro (or even US-Canadian) exchange rates over the last three years. FIFA would like the US but it hardly needs it. Actually, it seems US pro leagues have dedicated more time and effort to developing global markets than FIFA has in pursuing a US market. And, no, the Super Bowl is not watched by a billion people.

    YHS, etc

Mia Garciaparra is retired and the WUSA was a slam-bang success wasn't it? Lasted what, four years before it folded? they were playing at high school stadiums and still couldn't sell them out. While the US women's national team will still be popular, its golden age has passed.

I meant Lonnie Smith. Had Ozzie Guillen on the mind I guess.

How many threads on this board were started to say that soccer is great?
How many threads on this board were started to say that soccer sucks?

The smugness is not coming from the soccer fans. All evidence points to the contrary.

When is Junction Boys on again?
    How about Poker?

Then the guy is an asshole. Every sport has asshole fans. I'm sorry you dealt with one and it soured you on the sport. Seriously.

I know for certain nobody on earth ever talks about how "some god never intended man to use their feet" or about how "boring a 1-0 soccer game is." I also never heard anyone talk about how soccer is some sort of previous step in evolution...

    My bad.

Look, I don't think this is that hard. There are a lot of people that like and love soccer. There are many that don't. I just don't understand the need to show where you stand on this issue.

I'm not a NASCAR fan and I probably never will be. I've tried watching. I've tried getting into a race. It just doesn't work for me and I'm certain that there are many many others that share this opinion. Come time for the Brickyard, I don't see articles written up about how NASCAR is un-American or boring since they only make left turns.

Why is this? Do non-soccer fans threatened by soccer fans? Are they afraid that one day a soccer game will be shown instead of a baseball or football game?
