If people want to know what the show is about, the Tyra essay summed it up nicely.

It did. I liked, too, how it echoed all the way back to the first episode, to Street getting hurt and our first meeting with Tyra and all these other people. And how it totally ignored that whole awful, Landry-and-Tyra-accidentally-kill-the-rapist plotline.
This was written to be the second-to-last episode in the series. I do, though, wonder where they go from here. I can't see myself watching a show about the McCoys.

There are shows I "date," have casual relationships with and then there is FNL which is one of those "til death do us part" type shows.

Here's a transcript of the essay:

Two years ago, I was afraid of wanting anything.
I figured wanting would lead to trying and trying would lead to failure.
But now I find that I can't stop wanting.
I want to fly somewhere in first class.
I want to travel to Europe on a business trip.
I want to get invited to the White House.
I want to learn about the world.
    I want to surprise myself.
    I want to be important.
I want to be the best person that I can be.
I want to define myself instead of having others define me.
I want to win, and have people be happy for me,
I want to lose and get over it.
I want to not be afraid of the unknown.
I want to grow up to be generous and big hearted, the way that people have been with me.
I want an interesting and surprising life.

It's not that I think I'm going to get all of these things,
I just want the possibility of getting them.
    College represents possibility.
The possibility that things are going to change.
    I can't wait..

  5. That gives me chills. I think I am going to have to rewatch this ep.

    Such great writing.

Bumped after last night's finale. They set up the shift in characters pretty nicely, opening the door for new ones. Interested to see where Buddy stands in the new scenario.

Next to that fancy looking Chevy at the beginning of the show.

I had already seen the whole season on the 101 but flipped over to hear Billy Riggins speech to Tim Riggins. Just a great moment when the older brother tells the younger that the future of their family lies in Tim getting a college degree.

Good finale. Nicely wrapped up, and set up for next season. I, too, loved the Riggins speech.
So, are we to think that only Saracen stays in town, likely with a coaching gig at East Dillon when he's not running the Tasty-Freeze? And we meet a whole new cast of youngsters in the fall.
And what of Landry? I find it hard to believe he's a year younger than the rest of the gang, but he doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Maybe they just didn't have time to give him a proper plotline.
Again, my only real quibble is with the football realism. Sorry, but I find it hard to believe that no one would stand up for a coach who took them to two state title games in three years just because of one asshole with a lot of cash and a kid with "a good arm." Not even any of the other parents? But, then, I guess that's how things roll in Dillon. That whole thread could have been a little better-developed.
But, a quibble. It's not really about football, right? Will miss this show for the next nine months.

  10. 1. It has been established that both Landry and Julie are a year younger, so they will be sticking around (although nothing is official yet).

    2. I believe the Dillon/East Dillon story line. Have you ever been around Texas football? Most parents would kill their first born if it one of the other ones could win state. They want to keep J.D. and win some titles. It might be a bit of a stretch, but not really.

    3. A great episode last night, but it was quite a relief to know that was just a season finale, not a series finale.

Also, it looks like season 3 will be on DVD mid-May, for those interested.

Terrific season finale. I love the looks on the Taylors' faces, starting with the scene in the church when Tammy lets coach know his fate just with her eyes, and continuing with the "new" field, and all the work that lies ahead in transforming both the turf (and presumably the team) into something to be proud of.

Clear eyes, full heart, can't wait (for next year).

The Riggins' tuxedos were classic. And Billy's speech at the end was great as well.

I can definitely see Matt sticking around to coach with Taylor, now that someone mentions it.

And I'm just a bit pissed off that they're not the East Dillon Giraffes.
