    Good thought too.

  2. I think it'll be interesting, whenever Coach Taylor returns, to see what happens with Smash.
Right now, under the new head coach, Smash Williams is "THE MAN" and is living quite large, at the expense of Saracin and some of his other teammates.
You just know Taylor will have none of that and Smash's reaction to being knocked down a peg or five should be quite interesting.

The Matt-Julie storyline tears me up, because I, uh, knew a guy -- yeah, that's it, he was a friend of mine -- who had to deal with seeing a girl just like Julie decide she needed more than he had to offer. To me, that whole dynamic comes off quite authentically on the show.

As for Julie's "I don't want to end up like my mom" rationale, I think she's smart and self-aware enough to come up with that on her own, and maybe even can trick herself into believing it for a while. But she's breaking up with Matt because she thinks (knows) she can do better and is excited about the alternatives. Simple as that.

On the other storylines, I think coach Taylor comes back because of the reasons mentioned elsewhere on this thread, I hope the Landry manslaughter thing just goes away (although I wonder if they were smart enough to move the guy's car away from the convenience store), and I trust the writers and producers will be smart enough not to have Mrs. Taylor involved in any kind of sordid affair with the science teacher. That would completely betray everything we know about her character, and would be a death knell for this show as we know it.

From this week's guide: "Smash and Matt bring their animosity for one another to the field during the Panthers' first game" so I'd say you're on the right track. Although I must say I haven't seen much tension from those two thus far this season, especially considering that Smash hasn't been in it much.

I'm not sure what role the science teacher is going to play yet, but it does seem like he's going to become important at some point. I really hope it's not an affair. I'm hoping this show doesn't play out as predictably as it seems it could.

Coach comes back otherwise there isn't a show, unless he's made head coach of Enormous Texas State University and brings Smash, Riggins & Matt with him.

How about when TMU comes to Dillon to recruit Smash? Should be an intriguing dynamic to see how the TMU coach deals with Taylor then.

  7. It hasn't been anything overt. But, Saracin has made a few comments about it being Smash's team. And there was one scene in Episode 2 where Saracin was doing a passing drill and he was looking really sharp. The last pass went to Smash and the Coach practically creamed his pants over Smash, ignoring his QB. Street caught that and tried to praise Saracin (while giving the coach a subtle hint to do the same, which was completely lost on him). Then, at the rally, everyone is kind of in the background while Smash does the rap number, and the coach has a big smile on his face.
Under Coach Taylor, it was all about team and Smash was forced to deal with that (though I don't remember too many problems, it's no secret Smash loves the spotlight). Under the new coach, he's got ALL the spotlight.
I have a feeling he's gonna rebel big time if/when Taylor makes his return.

It was posted earlier on in the thread but here's a spoiler if so inclined:

In an interview with E(!) Chandler is wearing his old Dillon Panthers polo shirt. The interview was probably done in the last few weeks, so at some point soon he'll probably come back to Dillon, as expected. It just doesn't make sense to keep him away, anyway.

We all know Taylor will come back to the show before the end and we know Julie will be in huge throuble when the parents find out she is messing around with someone that looks atleast 21+ in the show.

Landry and Tyra will have this killing come back and bite them in the ass because the car of the guy is still parked by the store. They never showed us anything that would say anything else and this story line is very normal for tv shows where the outcast/geek etc gets the dream girl that he wants bla bla bla. Like I have said before Landry will get in throuble and his dad will bail him out since he is a cop.

Connie may do something with this science guy since they could possible do something since it looks like he is now more in her life then Coach. Why call him if you did not care to much for him or did not think he was cute??? She does have other friends in Dillon.

The nurse will do something and Julie will be pissed and by the end of the season they will be back together if the show even ends up lasting until the end of the season.

Just watched the new episode and thought it reeked of soap opera. At least they played football for a change.
Must admit I'm disappointed with the direction the various story lines are going, starting with the ridiculous Riggins-Lyla-religion escapade. The Tyra love connection took an absurd turn too with the killing, which would have been easily explained as self defense if they hadn't have tried to cover it up.
It all sounds so sophomoric. It's as if they borrowed the writing staff from All My Children to chime in.
Sad thing is, I really enjoy watching the show....or used to. They need some new characters to bring some life to the show. And a little more football would keep the need for teen melodrama to a minimum.

I was fine with it tonight. Julie has her character nailed down. Nailed down solid as shit. It's going soapishly, yeah, but that's what most dramas do. It's still a good show. I'm done trying to overthink it, and will instead just enjoy it.

and we did get to see Lyla in a bra. I'm just going to keep watching until they tell me I can't watch it anymore. That crap about Street being a mascot was bush. Don't like the going to Mexico thing either. And of course Landry's watch would end up being a family heirloom. Where is Christopher Walken when you need him.
