Friday Night Lights, Season 2

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by Cosmo, Oct 1, 2007.

  1. The guy playing Jason Street is phenomenal.
As someone who's been around a lot of quadriplegics, he pulls off the mannerisms spectacularly. How he holds his hands; how he scoots out of his chair; the driving. Excellent stuff. The guy is spectacular.
I tell you what, the people that cast this show were spot-on. Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton are the best TV couple today. Saracen and Julie are top notch. I already touched on Street. Buddy Garrity has the over-involved booster role down to a T. Landry is awesome.

I really hope this show finds some solid footing. It doesn't have to be a blockbuster ... but I'd like a nice, solid 4 or 5 season run to see this group through high school/beginning of college.

  2. I agree whole heartedly. The kid that plays Street and the kid that plays Saracen are outstanding. I love how they are developing Saracen's character. They are slowly but surely giving him the confidence that goes with being QB1 for Dillon and it's been completely realistic in my mind.

I could do without the murder storyline, but hopefully they make it go away in short order.

One peeve of mine, though, is the continued horrible football scenes. It shouldn't be that hard to put together scenes that at least make sense or jive with actual football rules. For instance, in last night's episode, they had the kid that recovers the onside kick advancing it deep down the field. Correct me if I'm wrong and I don't know Texas HS football rules, but I don't know of that being legal anywhere. Stuff like that can get on my nerves.

I've got a bad feeling about what's in store for Landry. A real bad feeling. I hope I am wrong...and no, its not that he gets hired by ESPN.

chandler and britton might be the best actors on a tv drama, period. i only watch four or five shows regularly but i can't remember seeing two actors appear so real on TV. i think some of the acting on lost is terrific but it feels less real because i can't quite relate to being stuck on an insane island in the south pacific.

This makes what 8 games in two seasons Dillon has one on the last play? And not to nitpick, but it's even more ridiculous that Taylor would draw up the last play for Landry.

I still watch because the Coach-wife scenes and Julie-Matt scenes are great, but the rest of the show is doing very little for me. I have no idea what was going on with the whole Mexico thing, and what was up with Lyla kissing them both in front of the other. Just seemed weird.

Agreed. I get that its just a TV show in need of drama, but pt of what made FNL great in the beginning was its believability factor with characters and scenes that rang true. It still has great acting and decent dialogue, but the storylines get less credible every week.

Landry was a great character in part b/c he was easy to identify with, and I can buy that a math club geek would try football to impress a girl, but no way in hell does he ever end up getting his number called on the game winning play for the defending Texas state champs. And his Tyra infatuation was great last year, and I wanted him to end up nailing her as much as the next guy, but really they couldn't have found a better way to finally get those two together than have him murder her stalker and hide the body?

I am waiting for Saracen and Landy to say fuck this with the nice girls and go have them some fun with the rally girls, Riggins-style.

And then get one of them pregnant, after just one tumble in the sack.

Having finally caught up with the DVR, I have but one question:

Did anyone else think that Lyla was going to abandon the lord in favor of a Mexican three way with Riggins and Street? And can you put that on in prime time?

Not sure if this has been posted, but I think one thing that makes Landry's having his # called on the last play even semi-plausible (though a stretch, agreed) is Coach Taylor's (A) rewarding Landry for having the stones to step up at halftime and speak, and (B) essentially telling Smash, "Sure, you and Saracen can kiss and make up and get in for the last big play, but no way I'm giving you the ball to win this game and get the glory you expect" -- not only because it's what the defense would count on, but also because not giving him the rock was a sort of "punishment" for being a selfish douche (along with QB1). That was my take, anyway. Still, you'd think they'd have thrown to someone who could, you know, catch the ball, like a receiver or the starting tight end as opposed to, say, the Dillon High mathlete.
