Also, the FNL contract was for a full 22 episodes, and, supposedly, 15 were in the can at the time of the strike, meaning that after last night's sixth episode, nine remain that can be produced.

That's as good a shape as any NBC show, and rumors are flying all over about what will become of them and how NBC will use them. They might just air weekly as planned or they might get pulled and held in case the strike goes long and the network gets desperate for new material, say, after the new year.

Top scene: Riggins and Smash at the dinner table, watching Riggins take possession of his life and Smash actually become a leader.

Worst scene: The last scene just reeked of: OK guys, lets show the guys just messing around and having fun. I It needs to be at dusk, and ooh, lets add a plane!" I would've preferred to have just seen the two tough guys go at it.

Best plot-line: The new Saracen girlfriend thing, and how that will play out wih Julie.

Worst plot-line: None -- as long as Landry's dad is involved, I enjoy the scene. He is a top-notch actor. Is it weird that I watch him and actually feel like he's landry's dad?

What's going to happen: No clues at this point...

    Wonderful episode.
    Best show on TV.

Was a great episode. I do like Landry's dad a lot. Just really hoping (probably against hope) that they drop the murder story line as soon as possible.
For all the Landry-love, Riggins has established himself as my favorite character. But why can't he just go and talk with Coach about why he was in Mexico. Given how Coach feels about Street, that would probably solve the problem. But, then, I guess he can't. Because he's Riggins.

The LAT blogger who writes about the show mentions this same thing, but speculates that there is little chance the show, in its current form, would get renewed for a third season. So the strike doesn't mean good things for FNL.

Just curious, how does torching the car solve anything? Hasn't everyone in Dillon seen Landry drive that beat up wagon? Doesn't Texas have car registration laws?

Based on what Landry's dad said, it doesn't matter. The only evidence the police came up with was a carpet fiber from a mid-1970s GM wagon, of which there are several dozen registered in the area. Even if the police suspect Landry, there's no way they can be sure the fiber comes from his car if they can't find it (or if it's been burned to smithereens).

There probably are some holes in the logic, but there have been holes in the entire storyline, and I'm satisfied so long as it brings the manslaughter tangent to a merciful end.

On another note, I have known more than a few trapped-in-a-small-town, goodhearted-teacher, married-to-the-coach, mothers of teenage children in my life, and Connie Britton is almost more convincing in that role than the real ones were. Everything she says and does is perfectly written and beautifully performed. When she spent two minutes railing to Eric about her inconsiderate sister, then started jumping up and down like a schoolgirl when the doorbell rang, all I could do was smile and nod my head. She's got that character down pat.

So I can't get the link to work, but Radar apparently has a story saying that ESPN will pick up Friday Night Lights if NBC cancels it. Don't know if that's good news or bad news. I can't decide whether I'd rather mercy kill this show, or see Bill Simmons showing up as a Dillion HS history teacher.

Up next, highlights from the Yankees-Red Sox series, and later, my boy Tim Riggins be playahating all over last night for his peeps in Dillon. Another last-second victory for the Panthers? Fo-shizzle! Plus, will Matt and Julie work things out? And what's up with Tyra trying to make Landry jealous with the new kid in town? We'll kick it to our guys in studio, Clayton and Salisberry, and hear their thoughts on whether Smash is getting the ball enough and who Lyla should end up with. Plus, later, Steve Phillips will tell you what HE would do if he were Coach Taylor to get this offense back on track. He's sign James Van Derbeek's character from Varsity Blues! Oh no he din-int! SportsCenter is next! Holla!
