I've been rewatching the first season on UniversalHD, and it's amazing how much better it was. It's still damn good now, but the first season is like a whole different program.

Don't know if y'all saw this. One of the better articles I've read on FNL.

Kind of painful to read, but quite accurate. Good article.

Maybe I am naive (or just old school) but I'm not sure every show on TV has to have complementary digital components to succeed.

Those of us who enjoy watching (and posting our thoughts about) the show seem to get something out of the 60-minute experience each week. For me, that's enough.

If we ever get to the point where a show can't survive on its own merits without the accompanying bells and whistles, what would that say about TV as an institution?

I see they used last night to bring the "forgotten" characters back into play, especially Street.

I would like to see the Tyra/Landry situation advance, though. It's about time he finds out what his dad did.

I know it's been mentioned here before once or twice, but Scott Porter's (Jason Street) portrayal of a quadriplegic is simply one of the best acting jobs I've ever seen on a network television program.
From someone who has been around numerous quadriplegics, Porter has even the most minor mannerisms down. The way he holds his hands; his torso movement and legs (or, lack of movement) is unbelievably accurate. You can tell both the writers, directors and Porter himself really did a lot of work studying this.
If I didn't know any better, I'd have guessed Porter and his buddy Herc really were quads.

As for last night's episode, I thought it was OK. The whole "Tyra's a great volleyball player" all of a sudden was kinda out of left field, but most of the sports stuff on this show IS wacky. Fortunately for the show and its viewers, FNL goes far beyond what happens on the field, or court in this case.
I'm hoping we've seen the last of the meth-heads. I thought for sure Billy Riggins was gonna catch a bullet, but I was thankfully wrong. I almost thought Billy going after the meth-heads was too farfetched, until I remembered he's a Riggins and the Riggins boys are perpetual fuck ups. Sure we love Tim Riggins, but he's a fuck up. He most likely learned from his brother. We love him in spite of his flaws.
I'm glad we caught up with Street, but it seems like his character his just spinning his wheels right now (pun intended). He's got a job at the car dealership ... now what? It's kinda like they're not sure what to do with him, which is a shame cuz he's such a talented actor.
I'm interested to see how long Lyla's "born again" phase is gonna last. I'm guessing her new boyfriend is gonna do something to make her question her faith. It's a network prime time show, so something bad HAS to happen.
As always, Coach Taylor and his wife are the best part of the show. I can't wait for Taylor to backhand Julie and her snotty attitude.
As for "Smash," he's getting dumped by the white girl real soon and he doesn't even know it. As usual, his mom will be right. And if anyone believes Smash's absence will keep the Panthers out of the playoffs, well, I have a few bridges to sell ya. :)

Last night's episode was decent. Even when the storylines are a little iffy the acting is so good that they instantly become much better.

I was also waiting for Billy Riggins to take a bullet and surprised when he didn't. Tim is just a lose cause anyway, but I hope the Tim/Lyla thing is put to rest. It was good last night, but this would be a realistic way to end it for good. I hope and think there's more left to Landry/Tyra. Those two have some terrific chemistry and make you really invested in the characters and their relationships. I laughed when Tami got into the coaching aspect of volleyball, screaming at the players much like her husband does.

Smash will be single before long and perhaps without a scholarship. I'm wondering where Street is headed, but I don't think there's much more you can do with him. The actor makes his character so likeable that you can't help but root for him and want to see him succeed. Maybe he becomes a successful car salesman and kind of fades away.

Looks like next week Saracen gets alot more airtime...looks like he's becoming quite good with the ladies. Did I see Coach Taylor shove him in a shower clothed and turn the water on?

  9. It looks like he turns into Tim Riggins, smelling like a bar.

I thought it was a good episode, not great. I still can't get over that we saw more volleyball footage last night than we have seen of football for the past few episodes, but I only notice then when the show is over. The acting is just too good to notice stupid stuff like that.

This continues to be the best acted television show on the air. Period. Overlooking far-fetched story lines proves quite easy when you feel like you're watching real life.

They do sometimes leave storylines hanging and forgotten. Another example, remember the last time we saw Jason street before last night he was kissing the new waitress girl he'd met, and it looked like this was gonna be the show's new relationship. But then, Street disappears for a few episodes and the next time we see him there's no girl around and his buddy's talking about needing to hook him up with someone. What happened with that girl?

The wife thought the blowout between Street and his buddy was a scam to get a cheap car. I think I would have enjoyed that one better. I like that we're seeing some realistic snapshots of what it might be like to be bound to a wheelchair and so forth. But I'm also a little lost as to where this whole thing is going. Also, why wouldn't this seemingly bright kid be in college?

And, please, for the love of all that's good in the world, let Riggins run for 300 yards a game and earn a college scholarship.
