If a guy without kids making $65,000, plus what his wife makes, can't make it work, I don't know what to tell you.

Rectitude ... on a board where working professionals share methods of stealing online music.

Grover Norquist himself said it wasn't a tax hike, or at least it didn't violate his pledge.

The outrage that prompted this discussion was not that teenagers were being forced by their parents into gay-conversion therapy of dubious scientific validity. Rather, the outrage was that such therapy even exists. From that was proffered an analogy involving people being grabbed up off the street and "converted" against their will. And you say I'm the one who's pretending to be opaque?

Now, as to your amended question: While I don't feel all that warm and fuzzy about parents forcing their teen children into such therapy, let's not lose sight of two facts.

    1) We're not talking electroshock therapy here.

Trying to get my head around how that differs, qualitatively, from Methodist Youth Fellowship (my teenage-years "conversion therapy" which, admittedly, was simply an attempt to transmogrify me from the turd I was happy being into the minimally functional adult my parents desperately hoped I'd become).

    2) Parents are always making their teenagers endure things that the teenagers don't really want to endure. I don't know about you, but pretty much every experience forced on me by my parents when I was a teenager involved me being shown ways to "suppress" my feelings. Now, to be fair, most of these feelings ostensibly being suppressed didn't cut to my core being. But, then again, what teenager really has a grip on his/her core being?

P.S. I do agree with you that I'm charming.

P.P.S. I find the word "turd" to be wonderfully amusing to type.

Of all the nonsense I've waded through re: the fiscal cliff and other political issues these last couple of years, the idea that the end of the temporary payroll tax cut is somehow reflective of the President's maneuverings is pretty near the top of the charts. Neither the Democrats nor the Republicans evidenced any desire to extend and/or make permanent that 2% cut. Such was never on the table. Such was never put forth by either party.

It's a tax hike back to the permanent rate, which should not have been a surprise.

The real surprise for tax filers, especially those who file as soon as possible is the IRS won't accept electronic returns until January 31.

How can old_tony possibly get back to the lofty level of "CREDIBILITY!!!!!!" that he previously enjoyed here?

I mean, before the election, even those who disagreed with his political views really showed him a lot of respect.

Keep up the effort, old_tony. They were all so ready to treat you well, as people with 'CREDIBILITY!!!!" are treated. Alas, your post-election actions totally killed the great reputation you previously enjoyed among your opponents in this thread.

Les Miserable (the Musical) had never been filmed. Ergo, Les Miserable (the Musical) is not a remake.

    Temporary tax cut is temporary.

My wife and I had sex night before last. Last night we didn't. She's cut me off, I tell you.
