    Asreal -
Do you realize how unequal wealth distribution was during the formation of the republic?

I wonder if slavery had anything to do with wealth creation and distribution back then.

Azrael, do you think Obama is some kind of champion of the middle class? I honestly want to know if you are a supporter because I can't see how someone with your views could be an Obama fan (other, of course, than the 'D' behind his name).

Not really. Nor have I ever said as much.

All things equal, the more "progressive" candidate will always be my preference - because the point of Progressivism, whether you're talking about Fighting Bob La Follette or old Joe Hill is to help the little fella - but as I've said here many times, I'm well to the left of any 'D.'

It was included in yesterday's talking points that are distributed each morning to the board's conservatives.

Are they distributed in English or the original German?

    Multiple sources contribute to them.

Some of the writing is not very good.

The Right couldn't beat Obama, so now it's trying to co-opt him? Clinton, who did more than any GOP person to dent the safety net, is whom you're surely talking about.

Yours is a common refrain, my friend.
'My gosh, you guys, Obama's really not as liberal as I am!'
I didn't hear much of this in autumn 2008.

Slavery was a contributer to wealth before the cotton gin's invention in 1794 (patent year) but not as much as you'd think. It was post 1794 when slavery had its most dramtic impact. Prior to that slaves were more likely contributors to wealth in sugar plantations rather than cotton, but it was cotton where slavery made its largest economic impact in both the South were it was grown and the North and England were it was used in manufacturing.
The original distribution of wealth in the colonies and early states was tied more to agricultural production and rents on land used for agriculture. Land was the source of wealth, but don't confuse wealth with liquidity. Lots of land rich and cash poor wealthy people. see Jefferson, Thomas.
