    Would it?

    In 1940, men collecting social security (eg, who hit age 65), were expected to live 12.7 years.
    In 1990 (latest numbers I found quickly), that went all the way up to ... 15.3 years.
    That's not exactly living a lot longer.

    Well, assuming that it did, you would have to also note that SS was set up originally to do so to an even greater degree, since the wealth-life expectancy gap was much larger back then.

    A larger proportion of men can expect to hit 65 now than did in 1940. Thus you have more claimants claiming for a longer period of time.

    Doesn't matter, it's a basic observation anyone would be free to make. Are you going to ignore the numerous inaccuracies that were found in Mamet's piece? Firearms are for closers.
