The possible future tax effects were murky, because there was a chance that over time middle-class taxpayers might get pushed into higher tax brackets. But you know that wasn't why it was DOA. And it did nothing with respect to pre-existing conditions, either. But then again, that wasn't why it was DOA, either.

On the other hand, I have a hard time reading "if you can't afford health care, you might as well just drop dead" in that plan. Maybe it was in the penumbras and the emanations.

But when Obama ran in 2008 I thought he was against Bush thrashing The Constitution. John Yoo was the anti Christ of The Justice Dept.

    'Global battlefield.'

    'all enemies foreign and domestic'

Be careful what you wish for.

But I took Obama at his word in his 2008 Inaugural address:

"As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals.

Our founding fathers faced with perils that we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a charter expanded by the blood of generations.

Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience's sake.

    Safety and ideals.

    "All enemies, foreign and domestic."

I'd be more inclined to go along with the obamagotcha if there had been any objection raised when all of this 'by any means necessary' bullshit started ten years ago.

Again, be careful what you wish for.

Just go back through SJ as a sampling. There were a lot of objections raised.

I oppose our current policy on the same grounds.

And opposed it ten years ago.

I wonder how much significance to attach to terms like borders and battlefields in the context of fighting Al Qaeda in 2013.

The official document hasn't been released, right? I read the NY Times story and I thought this was just a memo providing an overview of the rationale. The breadth of executive latitude doesn't seem very clear at this point.

"The Justice Dept "White Paper" was "obtained by MSNBC.

"“A lawful killing in self-defense is not an assassination,” the white paper reads. “In the Department’s view, a lethal operation conducted against a U.S. citizen whose conduct poses an imminent threat of violent attack against the United States would be a legitimate act of national self-defense that would not violate the assassination ban. Similarly, the use of lethal force, consistent with the laws of war, against an individual who is a legitimate military target would be lawful and would not violate the assassination ban.”

Yes, the President saved your life.

Do you realize how silly that sounds? Why don't you just call him your Benevolent Leader?

The (potential) problem in your case is the employer based healthcare system we currently have. And, I agree that is a problem. There's n reason for employment and health insurance to be tied to each other.

So, in short, "Stand Your Ground".

George Zimmerman's lawyers must be furiously quoting this legal finding.
