Is the doctor making house calls?

On a good day, I (personally) do four jobs. The most I've ever done in a day is seven jobs.

Do you know how many patients a doctor can see in a day? They've got you in that little room waiting for you. The "nurse" has already taken your vitals. The doctor comes in and spends 10 minutes with you.

If that was how my business worked, I could charge less.

Yeah, I'm sure doctors totally would lower their prices. They don't have tens of thousands of dollars of medical school debt or anything. The market cures all!

All for it if we can subject "Mom" to the same local, state, and federal regulatory, legal, and reporting requirements as any other small business.
Make sure to file that 1099 for Little Junior's allowance and don't forget the OSHA inspection next week.

Medical school tuition should go down, right? Except it hasn't, even after new schools have opened.

Sounds like Jr. learned graft and corruption from his dad but wasn't paying attention when he taught him how to cover it up.

    But would you?

The market shows people are willing to pay a certain amount to fix coffee machines. If someone is willing to pay you a certain price, would you accept less?

The same with a doctor. I doubt that most doctors, unless they were doing charity work, would accept less.

Baron, I charge rates that the market can bear. I've raised my rates once, and that was several years ago.

Now, I make it a point to compete on service, not price. I provide the very best service. That means having parts on hand. It means getting right out when a customer's machine is down, and it mean fixing the machine right, the first time, and not having to go back.

I'm courteous and polite, and so is my employee.

I don't "hang parts" on machines.

All that being said, if somehow my business morphed into one where folks brought me their machines, and it took me 10 minutes of my time, I'd have to lower my prices, because my competitors would. The market would no longer bear my price.

As it is, if a customer does want to bring me their machine, they don't get charged the $75 "Initial Fee" for going out to them.

Businesses started offering it when unions were relatively strong and the threat of workers walking out was a legitimate one. But now that unions are weak, I think we'll be seeing more companies being shortsighted and deciding to pay the fine instead of the insurance. If the workers complain, unless they really value their employees, they'll tell them to take a hike.

How do you know for sure if your competitors would lower their price. They might look at your price and decide to match it.

Baron, I don't think you understand how the world works.

If none of my competitors lowered their price, someone else would come along, and seeing the opportunity, open a new business that would take away all of our business.
