To say it didn't "cause" the housing bubble is of course true. To suggest it wasn't a contributor to the housing bubble is nonsense.

Of course it was a contributor. One of several.

    Where did I suggest otherwise?

You didn't. Just a prophylactic against those who might over-reach.

As true as that it, it's hard to think of a charismatic moderate Republican to hold up as a recent example for folks to rally 'round.

Was GWB thought of as a 'moderate' within his own party?

The GOP base demanded Bush and Romney be consistent on one thing: staying white.
Problem is moderates are up against moneyed, powerful national conservative organizations.
This is pretty much how noted conservative moderate Dick Lugar had his long run of meritorious service end.

The last thing I think of when I hear "Chris Christie" is "moderation."

Was also referring to his bluster, loudness, etc.

He is like the state he represents: bloated with not only consumption of unhealthy foods, but also with his own sense of importance. "But . . . we're right next to New York!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

That's very nice, Jersey. Here's a pat on the head and a cookie.

The more moderate he seems, the more Democrats like him. I'm not sure the reverse is true.
